Baymont by Wyndham Cedar City

We’ve been staying at this motel for years- back when it was the El Ray Inn. It was local owned and the owners took pride in a quality product for a good price. It was one of our goto motels when we visited our kids in Cedar. Over the past 5 years, we’ve probably spent at least 20 nights here. Their family room is a great value if you need more than 2 beds. A couple years ago, it was bought by Wyndham, and boy, you can tell the difference, notably in the deep cleaning. They originally told me this was due to Covid difficulties, but com’on- there’s been time to address this. The bathrooms have mold, the tubs and tile are dingy. The lamps and fans are dusty. Unfortunately, Wyndham has bought several of the local motels over the last few years and they’ve all gone downhill in this way. So although it really needs some attention, it’s pretty typical for this price range in Cedar. Pros are- the beds are very comfy. The breakfast is free and decent. We probably will keep staying here when we need 3 beds, but I just might bring some cleaners and bleach and tackle that tub myself. 🙄

Not an upscale place if you are looking for that. Told at evening check in that breakfast was till 1000. Got there at 9:25 and everything being put up. Asked and told breakfast was over at 9:30. No offer to work around or to leave some things out. Just “sorry”. Been on a road trip for over a week and this was the poorest breakfast and service.

Breakfast included waffles which was a plus, in my opinion. Rooms were clean but sheets were worn and mattress could be upgraded. Good location, exterior was clean, and pleasant architecture design.

Front desk personnel unfriendly, unhelpful, probably untrained. Not a smile from the night shift who checked us in, not an “I’m sorry” from day shift when we listed all the problems with the room, and breakfast. Room: DIRTY! Sink had shaving cream and whiskers in it. Mirror was spattered with something. Hair in the bathtub. Toilet seat chipped and underside was dirty. Floor in the room not vacuumed. Weird, tiny pillows on the bed. Extra blanket looked like a cast-off from the local dog pound. Breakfast: out of almost everything when we arrived at 8:30 am. No sausage, no waffle mix, low on bagels and pastries (as in four total left). Both trash cans overflowing. When asking front desk about lack of food, got a surly “It’s cooking,” with of course no apology. When we tried to clean our table, I had to balance our trash on top of the overflowing trash coming out of the can. When I informed the front desk about the trash, “We know.” Also— we tried to add a day to our stay, was told we couldn’t do that, but we could make another reservation. Then after our first night, we’d have to check out, then check back in. As an added bonus, we couldn’t get our room cleaned with us using it. I guess you have to take everything out of the room before they’ll clean it, which if you’re paying attention— they don’t do anyway! We won’t be staying at a Wyndham property ever again. Everything on the website is smoke and mirrors. The reality is this is the worst hotel I’ve been at in a long time, and unfortunately due to a lot going on in Cedar City, everything else is booked.

I was in Cedar City for college rodeo. Checked in late and found the room to be nice but dirty. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned in a LONG time. It had BM all over it under the seat. The tub was a huge jetted tub but didn’t dare even stand in it. Was very disappointed in cleanliness.

Friendly service at the front desk, sincere dialogue. Room comfy and well-lit. (Rooms with good lighting are the cleanest, IMO.) Kids seemed to be enjoying the pool on this hot day. Ice machine did not disappoint--thank you. The AC was reliable too and felt it was not too cold or warm. Good breakfast.
