Very nice location with parking near to the main entrance not large enough to accommodate you on arrival. It was all full so we had to park at the rear which is quite a distance away. Reception at arrival was ok and the lady was fairly friendly. We had booked one night spa package, got a twin room on the 4th floor which was nice enough with bathroom that included a shower and bath. This room had a ajoining access door and we could hear every conversation, coughing and sneezing there was which was not great. No bathmat in the bathroom and shower doors could only be opened from the top and not the handles, really needs attention. The Spa receptionist and spa therepists were very friendly, the manager there a bit less, very slow to react to me as a guest standing there waiting to ask a question although there was nobody in front of me. Facilities are adequate but don't expect a swimming pool that you could use doing a few laps. Floors are very wet especially coming down stairs from such pool which leaves it very slippery. I found that out the hard way. Booked Spa Treatment was good but shower to wash off body wrap residue was so hot ( you could not change temperature!) that i could not wash off all of it. Therapist was good and attentive. The included dinner package was appropriately half portion of "normal dinner" served. Nevertheless the food was nice and as we opted for dessert we got a full portion there. What I really liked was their extensive vegetarian and vegan menu throughout...thumbs up for that. We had a nice evening outside but we did notice that a lot of staff are not engaging unless you make conversation first. Breakfast was just ok with food not being hot when going to the buffet. My friend had to wait quite a long time for any of the food to be refilled. Thank you for the lovely breakfast waitress who was so nice and chatty and who also apologised for my friends wait to get food from the buffet. Choice of the buffet is quite poor for a hotel of that class. Thank you for the lovely lady we presume from housekeeping who started chatting to us in the lobby. At check out we were presented with the bill that was wrong and the receptionist on duty was outright rude! When my friend said that on her calculator on her phone it cane to a different amount she said that her calculator is correct and my friends calculator would show the same amount as she was right. Manager got involved although we tried to tell her to finish dealing with us and it would all be sorted out. She wouldn't listen at all and stormed into the back office to get manager. I told the manager that his colleague had no patience and he thought I was joking of which he was informed that I was not and no comment was made. We were treated not as valued guests that had just spend a lot of money but as an uncomfortable pair that had questioned the bill! Dampened our experience, staff and managers need some people skills. Overall a pleasant stay.

We have stayed at Kilronan Castle many times and we last stayed in April and I left feeling a tad disappointed in the experience that we usually love. The room and all the features of the room were lovely. Mary in the breakfast room was as welcoming as ever. The breakfast was amazing as usual. The service and the food in the casual dining were top notch. What let it down was that there was no recognition that we were returning guests. Even reception asked had we been there before. Surely this should be flagged up on the system. We also felt that the Douglas Hyde restaurant was trying too hard. The menu was complicated and each of my courses I really did not enjoy. The quality superb but the execution just fell short for me. So much so that I am not sure we would eat there again. Overall I think we will return, maybe not hurry back but would hope that maybe more could be made of repeat guests who choose to come back and that the restaurant goes back to being less fussy.

Stunning tree lined driveway entrance to beautifully restored castle and very extensive and sympathetic extention to incorporate spa area and large ballroom. The perfect wedding venue. Lovely afternoon tea, very reasonably priced lunch menu. Friendly, young staff.

Disappointing. Change of hotel moved us here. Were told we would receive an upgrade, but because it was twin room non available- gave a bottle of Prosecco. AC did not work and staff would not come to room- said it would take time to cool. Never dropped below 24 degrees Celsius. Only dinner reservation for casual dining was 8:30- when we left to go off property we spoke with maitre d' to cancel, the restaurant had about five tables and the rest were empty. Stated we wanted an earlier reservation and he said “so you want to cancel” but did not offer to change reservation. For a five star property, service was disappointing. Property was lovely!

Kilronan Castle was AWESOME! * The Afternoon Tea (reservation) was too much for us to eat, but it was amazing. We actually ate leftovers for a couple of days afterwards. NOTE: They have takeaway boxes that DO NOT FIT IN THE REFRIGERATOR!!! * Meals were awesome and I especially enjoyed their boxty! Ah, you say, boxty is just a potato pancake, but ... not the Kilronan Castle way! I asked and they made it into a casserole first, cut it up, then air fried it. I am on my second batch trying to get something like what we had in the mornings! SQUEE!!! NOTE: I did the same with Japanese okonomiyaki and that was also good! * We walked down by the lake along one of their hiking paths. It was marked, but I swear it was longer than they said, but we made it! * We didn't use their spa, but I wish we had. Their prices were the most reasonable on our trip. * Funny story: Our shoes made squeaky noises on the tile ... it was just the tile going from the entrance to the right as we headed to our rooms. There were absolutely Pokestops at the castle!

We got a great deal for an overnight stay at kilronan castle. It's a wonderful spot. Real historic spot. Staff are excellent and efficient. Only small issues were around the aircon ( not working well but fan provided) there were minor issues with hygiene. So nearly there!!

I booked this last minute since our plans had changed. I had wanted to have a castle experience. They had a one night special with a 5 course meal in their restaurant. It was amazing. The room, the dinner, the bar, the grounds. I will stay again, mainly because I did not get to check out the spa.

We were very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. It’s loaded with Irish heritage and artwork. You really do feel as though you are staying in a castle. The food at dinner (we ate in the casual dining restaurant) was really good. We loved the dungeon bar. Have a yellow spot whiskey and enjoy this incredible place.
