This is a beautifully unique experience in an amazing setting. There is a LOT to like about this place, but it does have one thing I feel is worth mentioning. The views, the monkeys, the staff are all amazing (Johnny)! But the food at the restaurant for my family and I was a major let down here. Taru gets good reviews, it’s beautiful and the staff is great but the food is just not good. I’m not sure if there was a change in the chefs or what? It’s a small place with few guests and the food arrives slowly and often cold which is inexcusable. Overall it’s great, but in our opinion the food could definitely use some help as it’s some of the worst we had on our stay.

We were pampered here and felt like all the staff were our friends by the end of our visit. The surroundings are spectacular. We could hear so many birds and howler monkeys were in the tree right next to the restaurant for our entertainment. The room was small but comfortable. The bathroom was big and a beautiful shower. We had on e of garden rooms, but next time would like to experience a tree house room. The food was fantastic too. Breakfast is included.

Amazing experience in the Costa Rican forests with spectacular views of two of the volcano’s. A great boutique experience that is second to none.

I can't say enough amazing things about this place. I really can't. I rarely write reviews, but I wanted to come on and say what an incredible staff this hotel has. They have truly gone above and beyond in every single way. They have made my 2-year-old daughter feel like a princess, they all remember her name, and Johnny even picked her a bouquet of flowers! They arranged a rental car to the hotel for us so we didn't have to go and pick one up. The airline lost our luggage and their assistant manager, Mary, lent us her personal one so we could safely get our daughter from the airport to the hotel. Kenneth, in the restaurant, was so, so sweet and joyful. Paulo, the manager, was truly exceptional. Johnny, jeez, what can we say about him?!! He is the best!! The place itself is such a unique, one of a kind experience that you can't get anywhere else. Book this place. Thank me later. I have high standards and can be a little snobby, so when I come onto Tripadvisor to write a review, you know it is good :)

PERFECT!!
Best stay ever! 200% recommend it if u like seclusion, attention to detail,and amazing views!!
We have stayed at several nice resorts and boutique hotels across North America and Europe and I could say that this is my favorite hotel we have stayed at ! It is hard to call this place a "hotel"....its more an experience
Honestly I was hesitant on reserving this place because the only review I had read was bad but I also realized it was a review from their opening guests and every business is going to have issues at start ups.This place is brand new!.. I am bad with names but for this review i dont think it is so necessary because absolutely everyone was so kind and amazing. From reception, servers,chef,general staff and general manager everyone made us feel special!!
As far as our treehouse,just amazing!!!
We appreciate architecture and quality materials. The design of the rooms and the entire property was so well planned . Cleanliness was perfect, towels smelled sooo good! We are very active and outdoors people but also allowed time to relax and enjoy this property...
We also really enjoy eating and trying different flavors and the chefs definitely meet expectations!....
Absolutely looking forward to repeating this experience!

Not what we expected
I was very disappointed with Riu Palace Costa Rica, I will not be returning. The road to the hotel small very bumpy 15-20 min drive, made me nauseous. This is the only road being the hotel is atva dead end. So any excursions or when you leave hotel you have to use this road and at night its very dark. The Hotel was not up to Par with the RIU BRAND or other resorts Ive stayed in. The room smelled(luckily I brought essential oils to mask smell but smell came back everyday), room was cheap, tv poor quality. The all inclusive was not worth it, food or drinks. We ate out the entire trip, even stayed at another hotel for a night. The customer service just wasnt there, no one was rude or any issues Just overall wasnt very friendly like other resorts IYKYK. I was there for my Birthday with 3 other friends we had two rooms. Overall we made the best of Costa Rica and stayed out the stinky rooms majority of trip doing excursions and sight seeing.
Also the beach is not "giving", the locals hang there, stray dogs and smell of urine from guys just urinating by trees.

Great room, extremely hard to find
Locating the hotel proved quite the challenge – circling the area for half an hour due to blocked routes by locals and flooded roads. Little did we know, driving across rivers was part of the adventure, thankfully manageable with our 4WD.
Despite the limited staffing, the rooms impressed with a nice, modern design. The lookout area was a highlight. Yet, the remote location left little to do, making our one-night stay feel sufficient as a rest stop.
On the downside, the food was rather mediocre. Despite an extensive menu, only 1-2 dishes stood out. Overall, an interesting experience with some highs and lows.
