Mermaid Beach Hotel

We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Carriacou and the Mermaid Beach Hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating! We booked the beachfront rooms and spent our early mornings and late evenings on the outdoor loungers watching the water. The rooms were spacious, had fridge/microwave, and reliable WIFI. The island is trying very hard to rebuild after the devastations of Hurricane Beryl which made landfall as a Cat 4 on July 1. Unfortunately, many of the restaurants are still closed to include the onsite kitchen at Mermaid Hotel. This made it really difficult to find breakfast or coffee in the mornings but we quickly adapted by purchasing food and caffeine from the nearby supermarket the night before so we had something in our stomachs before starting our days of diving or island hopping. The beds are extremely firm but I tend to find each culture has varying preferences on hard or soft mattresses. If you prefer a softer mattress, you might be hard-pressed to find it in Grenada. Would stay here again!

We stayed here in June/early July 2023. We stayed 7 nights and arrived on a Sunday morning. The hotel is really quiet, clean, safe, and very accommodating. Our room was the corner queen on the waterfront (front corner of the hotel). The hotel served us breakfast each morning before we went diving. We came to dive with Deefer Diving, and the dive shop is about a ten minute walk. The beach is perfect for swimming and playing on. However, there are no chairs or lounges, so you will have to get some from the hotel patio and put them back after use. The restaurant (Callaloo) was not open during our stay, except for our included breakfast. So there is no beach bar to provide snacks or drinks - you will have to bring your own. Neither of these things detracted from our stay, but just be aware of this. We really enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend it, especially for travelers doing a dive trip with Deefer Diving! If you want a quiet amazing trip, then this is the place!

Spent two nights at this hotel and I highly recommend it. From reservations to check-in and checkout, everything was to my complete satisfaction. The location is right on the beach and right in the main city with all amenities close by. The room was immaculate and spotless, the housekeeper at this hotel gets 20/10 for the attention to detail especially in making the bed.......perfection. I also enjoyed the location breakfast at the onsite restaurant. Overall, great stay and this will now be my spot for my monthly visit to the beautiful island of Carriacou.

We had a great time here. Lovely friendly staff, comfortable rooms and a fantastic location right on the beach: falling asleep to the sound of the sea was wonderful. We were a big family group, all of us in rooms with full or partial ocean views - worth paying the extra. We used the restaurant for breakfast and occasionally lunch. Good food, amazing views: we watched pelicans fishing while eating our scrambled eggs. It’s not a slick city centre hotel, so sometimes the service was a bit slow, once the water was a little tepid, but you don’t go to Carriacou for a slick city centre experience. We loved the birds visiting the restaurant! And the beach and sea are just beautiful. Hillsborough is an utterly charming place with interesting shops, a good little museum and quite a few good places to eat. We would go again in a heartbeat.

Rooms were clean and maintained daily. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Shout out to Jude for her help. Rooms were on the small side. Little storage for clothes. Wasn't a deal breaker. Only reason for a 4 rating is the restaurant was closed so we had other arrangements which worked out. Located ON the beach.

We stayed at this hotel, after not such a great stay at the Townhouse in Carriacou. It's in a great location, just off the beach in Hillsborough. Our parents were originally from Carriacou and we've been visiting for 35 years. Unfortunately as my parents have passed away and we're doing some repairs to the house, we had to find alternative accommodation so thought we'd stay at a local 'hotel'. Upon arrival, there was no one there. We were told to come back later, which by then, had someone to check us in. The rate had included breakfast, which was great, as we hadn't had this feature at our previous accommdation. Once I'd paid, I was told that there was no breakfast. They didn't have enough people and wasn't worth the person's while just cooking for two people. Fair enough, bit disappointed, but kind of got it. The room was basic, but with very strong and effective air conditioning. It wasn't very large, without anywhere to put our cases, or clothing as such, apart from a wardrobe. The fridge was tiny, the bin was small and only got changed once as no staff on the Sunday. I know Carriacou well, so I wasn't expecting Sandals, but still... The shower looked great, so was expecting a lovely hot shower, but of course got, at best, a cold to tepid temperature. More disappointment. Worst to come, there was no-one on site at night and it felt really scary as there was zero security. The light outside of our room didn't come on either. The 'ocean' view was the best. We had a broken down motorbike outside of our room and plain walls. I have no idea how they can call this a hotel. How, what, where?!!! No breakfast, even though we'd paid and clearly were never going to receive a refund? No security, nothing. I would not recommend staying here unless you literally only want a bed for the night, are on a diet and want a cold shower! Carriacou itself is absolutely beautiful, the people are wonderful - so find somewhere to stay that appreciates your money and understands what customer service actually means.
