I was disappointed with my stay at Carlsbad by the Sea. Unfortunately, the experience started off on the wrong foot at check-in. The front desk associate barely acknowledged me, avoided eye contact throughout the interaction, and came across as uninterested in providing even basic customer service. It certainly wasn’t the warm welcome I expected. The room itself also had several issues. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was because it advertised streaming services as an in-room amenity. After checking in, I discovered that streaming wasn’t working. When I called the front desk, I was simply told that maintenance was “working on it,” with no estimated timeline, apology, or attempt to offer an alternative or any gesture to make up for the inconvenience. Since I was only staying for one night, this wasn’t something I could simply wait to use later—it was one of the amenities I had specifically been looking forward to during my stay. The room also seemed inadequately prepared. There were no drinking cups, and the bathroom had only about a quarter roll of toilet paper remaining. These are basic items that should be checked before a guest arrives. While none of these issues alone would have ruined my stay, together they reflected a lack of attention to detail and a disappointing level of customer service. I expected a more welcoming check-in experience, a room that was properly stocked, and the amenities that were advertised when I booked. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and improves both staff training and room inspections so future guests have a better experience.
