Only a few tables eating (14-16 people eating) yet we stilled waited 50 minutes for food. 1st pint of beer completely flat, returned. Wine was okay. Staff were pleasant. The Hake was the most unappetising plate I had ever seen. I’ve never seen skin on & not crisped. It describes as roast hake charred onions (not a single charred onion on the plate) it was basically a cold salad with a piece of very opaque barley cooked hake plonked on the top, of which by the smell I would question the freshness. My husband had the bangers/mash which he enjoyed. I had one mouthful of the hake & left the lot! I grant you I never complained, we just paid the bill & left. Maybe if I’d have said something they may have refunded , offered something different, who knows. But when we said we had been waiting ages for food we were told they had 2 big tables who ordered before us & they can only do what they can do 🤷‍♀️ (not convinced on that as we came in the back way & walked through all the tables & didn’t observe any big parties) ) We’re not local we were just driving past & was hungry for some lunch. I left hungry & wished we had kept driving!

We had requested twin beds, but there was 1 large bed when we arrived. They went to work straight away and changed out the complete beds and made up the twins for us. It was awesome! I've never seen this quality of service any where else I've stayed. They were so gracious in spite of the extra work it was really wonderful.

Cosy pub feel, beautiful restaurant, cosy and spotlessly clean bed room Open fire in the pub, lovely staff. Top class Sunday lunch in the restaurant. Beef and all the trimmings followed by one of the best sticky toffee pudding. A peaceful sleep in a king size bed.

We very much enjoyed our 2-night stay here. The bedroom and ensuite provided everything we needed, and the bed was comfortable. The food was very good (we ate in the bar both nights), and the staff were all lovely. The new owner is refurbishing throughout and doing a very good job.

Though I booked this hotel four months in advance, and made clear that I wanted wheelchair access for my wife, the hotel informed me one week before the stay that all the rooms were on the first floor and there was no lift! The money for the room had by that stage been taken, but it was refunded. However, this is no way to treat customers, since I had to find alternative accessible accommodation at the last minute.

Stayed at the Queens for one night B & B September 8th, clean, beds comfortable, quiet location, secluded car park a great breakfast and outstanding value. Staff were courtious and very helpful. It was an excellent find that enabled us to visit friend’s in Carlisle whilst in transit from the north east.

Stayed as a party of 7 in 4 rooms travelling for my sons graduation in Carlisle. We arrived quite late having travelled up from Leeds but the staff were very accommodating, quickly sorting out our keys. As we had to leave early the following morning, the hotel offered to have our full cooked breakfasts ready for 7:00am the following morning which was great as we would have struggled to eat before the graduation. Rooms were very spacious and clean, great bed and pillows. Would highly recommend The Queens if you are travelling up to the lakes and Cumbria

Excellent food from an interesting menu. Andy & Kat (staff) were friendly, professional and very helpful. Apparently all the bedrooms are currently being refurbished by the new management team. Restaurant area a delight to sit in, with views over the beer garden. Fresh flowers on the tables were a lovely touch. We will be back when we can stay>

Stopped for lunch when driving back to Scotland. Perfect, quiet country location off the M6. The food was great - we had mussels and a cheese pie. Lovely welcome and dog friendly, even offered the pooch some biscuits. Would recommend and will definitely revisit.
