This hotel took my money but I cancelled as I could not get there. Took the full amount yet it cost them nothing. I had booked 48 hours before but not help from them. Morally disgraceful. Avoid this hotel as they give you nothing yet take your money.

Lovely luxury B&B with a slightly eccentric twist! Extremely easy access off the M6 - 2 miles on A69. Rooms are large, well appointed and the lady owner Val very genuinely welcoming. The beds are the most comfortable ever!! Breakfast menu excellent and cooked to order. Evening meal is ordered by 6pm as again cooked to order. All the food was of the highest quality in taste and presentation. The Drawing room is a lovely place to sit and has an honesty bar which was a pleasure to have. This room is shared with the owners study but she was completely happy for any guest to be using it and actively encouraged us to enjoy the open fire and comforts. The whole premises is dog friendly which is lovely however you need to be aware the resident puppy (7months) pointer is off lead and very bouncy. May not be suitable for anyone who isn’t keen on dogs or has a reactive dog. Although in fairness to the staff kindly removed her when our boy was around as he isn’t keen on bouncy puppies! The staff are without question delightful and attentive without being over bearing. One weakness is the lack of accessible rooms. They do have 2 downstairs self contained apartments but both require you to climb steps from the outside to access. There is no lift. I would very happily stay again and we met several returning guests.

Old fashioned traditional courtesy and comfort We picked this hotel for location and distance from start point near Mallaig with next stop in Derby Peaks. Beautiful setting and ‘old fashioned’ traditional comfort and service, in huge grounds on the banks of the Eden. Sadly the hot water was discombobulated on the day of our stay, which we were warned of but chose to go ahead anyway. Our nice bottle of wine at dinner was taken off our bill, which was a nice gesture. Would happily have stayed longer, and would stay again. Produce from the walled garden is amazing.

Grand country life! Loved this stay in a grand country house. The views are amazing and the country walks available are amazing. The room (suite) was enormous and well supplied. Val, owner and host, was in attendance and available. Nothing was too much trouble - plus a great breakfast!! Roll on summer!

Unpleasant experience Upon arrival, the owner told is that she had no reservation for our room and that the room was already given to someone else. The owner was not very friendly, helpful, or apologetic about the situation. But then, we were offered another bigger room, which we had to pay right away per CC. Then, we were shocked how old and outdated our room was: dirty and ripped items (see photo), no running warm water to take a shower, and internet was very slow and only intermittently working. After confronting the owner about this, we were told that this is to be expected at a B&B, and that this would not be a problem for her since we probably would never return to her hotel. Overall, not a very pleasant experience.
