Hôtel Montmorency & Spa

I stayed here with the Tour group and Judith 2025. The only real upside of this hotel is it's located steps from the city. The remodel of the rooms is absolutely atrocious and obnoxious. And reminds me of the Qbert game from the 80s. see photos. The bathroom is so poorly designed that one can barely squeeze onto the toilet and not get hit by the sink. The breakfast is very basic and even though I didn't pay for it I can imagine they charge people quite a bit for it. they literally brought me a plate with two pieces of cheese and a piece of meat. With assorted fruits and breads. Again, I expect a lot more for the price my tour company is probably paying this hotel.

A fantastically located hotel literally just out of the city gates of the old Cite of Carcassonne and indeed we had a good view of the walls from our room and from the breakfast terrace. A nice pool and jacuzzi area too. Reception, breakfast area and pool area are shared with the Hotel du Chateau whose rooms are in that location. The Montmorency rooms are across the road and are, to put it mildly, an acquired taste decorated in very vibrant colours - someone described my bright pink room as looking like a insalubrious nightclub! With an extra bed in the rooms I saw, they were also actually quite small. But, my reason for the low score in spite of great location is the problems we encountered with ventilation in the room: being on the ground floor we had no windows (only patio doors) to open at night and the air conditioner did not work as apparently it is connected to four rooms and if someone else is drawing heat, you cannot draw cool air / ventilation. Whilst staff tried to help (brought us a fan at 11pm) and we were moved to another room which could control its own temperature the next day, the experience left a sour taste in my mouth. In addition, breakfast was no more than adequate - although it was table service which made a nice change after a week of buffets I had had, on two days, the bread was as hard a rock. These issues I have referred to are such a pity as the location really is stupendous.
