Montrose House

Just spent the weekend at the amazing Montrose House in Canowindra. On arrival we were meet by the fabulous Tommy who was the most consummate host and entertainer. The building has be beautifully restored and decorate, each room with a theme. Rooms were extremely well presented and clean as were the renovated bathrooms. Food was a highlight along with the drinks around the fire.

Owner, Tommy Jeffs, created a perfect Christmas and July experience for our group of friends. From the moment we entered the Yuletide decorated bed and breakfast we were blown away! Every room in this eclectic home was themed for Christmas and each space perfect for Tommy’s own brand of hospitality; pre and post dinner drinks in the Whitehouse room, breakfast in the Princess Margaret Room or on the morning terrace, dinner in the Tuscany Room. The meals were sensational and generous; breakfast a choice of eggs benedict or classic big breakfast, Christmas dinner was a three course feast of the best cauliflower and potato soup I have ever tasted served with homemade bread, roast turkey with all the trimmings and a choice of pavlova roll or Christmas putting with home made carnation milk icecream for dinner. Every mouthful was delicious! Tommy made our trip even more special by entertaining us with stories of his glamorous life as a cabaret performer, his time at Port Macquarie running restaurants and of his life as a local treasure in Canowindra. He gave us tips for how to spend our time; Rosnay organic wines, Melissa Barber gallery and cafe (best homemade cakes), local shops to visit etc. If you are looking for a perfect weekend get away in a B&B, with a host extraordinaire, book at Montrose House. I cannot recommend Tommy, his cooking skills and his adorable home highly enough, you will not be disappointed!

We were a group of 6 on a reunion and were so lucky to have two nights at Montrose House. This is a truly stunning old home, filled with artworks and treasures, comfy rooms with quirky furnishings, great food - the highlight being mine host himself, Tommy Jeffs. Such a warm, welcoming host, nothing was too much trouble and his stories and easy manner made us feel like old friends from the minute we arrived! We quickly discovered he is held in high esteem by the local community too. Spend a few days at Montrose House with Tommy - you will feel you've stepped into another world and you'll want to return - as we definitely will!
