The hotel supposed to have a restaurant and pub but both were closed because the management was transferred to a new owner. It seems that the hotel does now longer belong to the Wyndham group.
Upon check-in, the receptionist informed us that 'breakfast will be served in the hotel lounge". However, 'served' meant that a brown paper bag was handed over, and breakfast turned out to be a muffin, a candy bar, a box of juice and two manderins. They put a tiny coffee machine in the lounge so guests had to stand in line to make their own coffee.
The answer to my complaint on checking out was that they couldn't get everything ready after transfer of management 4 weeks earlier. How hard can it be to organise a breakfast? Unacceptable!

My husband booked a two night stay at Painter's lodge for my birthday. Apparently the lodge is under new management and just opened 2 days before our stay. This lodge must have been quite the hotel in its day. It needs a lot of work and with love and care I think it will reach its original beauty.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. The restaurant and bar were not up and running but we were offered a continental breakfast of yogurt, fruit, granola bars and juice.
The location was perfect and the decor was lovely. It felt like time had been turned back to a wonderful era. Lots of history displayed on the walls.
We had a wonderful stay.

A lodge in a fantastic location with a wonderful terrace that shouldn't be missed. The service was excellent, incredibly friendly, personal, and witty! The rooms, however, aren't nice. Run-down and musty, and the balcony is unkempt with dirty furniture.

The owner has changed, everything is still in a state of flux, quite run-down and musty, and used. The bar and restaurant were unfortunately closed, but the family happy hour was a good thing, as was the light breakfast. The surroundings and location are top-notch!

Traditional fishing lodge. Recently taken over by ambitious owners. Friendly, welcoming staff at the reception! Restaurant, bar, and breakfast available from July 15, 2025. Our room with a view of the river and the jetty was wonderful. Whale watching and fishing excursions depart from this pier. All rooms are due for renovation, but ours was exceptionally well-maintained. Kudos to the new owners for their enthusiasm in breathing new life into the hotel so it can once again exude its former glory!

No, there was nothing wrong with a terribly old hotel. The room was very dated, and the smell was a mix of sewage and dog. We had breakfast there, which consisted of a carton of orange juice and a packaged muffin. Coffee and tea were available, but you had to pour your own water behind a deserted old bar.

We were surprised when arriving at this hotel to find it was quite rundown. Our room had a lovely view and a balcony looking over the ocean. We enjoyed our time staying there and watching the sea planes taking off and cruise ships passing by in the evening. The towels and bedding were very good and the room was very clean. However: The wood around the window frames was rotting although there had been new windows installed. The balcony was also rotting and the chairs were very old. The bathroom was clean but very dated. There also was no food available in the hotel as the restaurant had not opened as yet. As one of us is diabetic this could have been a problem. We could have used some help getting our suitcases up the stairs to our room but none was offered on arrival. There is a nice new swimming pool and the grounds are very pleasant. All in all Painters Lodge has great potential but needs a lot of refurbishment to get it up to a better standard.

Die Zimmer sind Grosszügig und sauber, aber sehr in die Jahre gekommen. Unser Zimmer hätte einen Balkon gehabt, der wurde aber wegen des schlechten Zustandes zugemacht. Das Bad war sehr klein und eng und eine Fliese defekt. Sie haben aktuell kein Angebot zum Abendessen,Restaurant sowie auch die Bar waren zu. Angebot war ein "gratis Frühstück"...es war keine wirkliche Auswahl vorhanden. Es gab abgepackte Muffins, Riegel, Orangensaft im Tetra Pack, 1 Sorte Joghurt und Kaffee. Der Empfang war etwas kühl und wenn wir nach Tipps gefragt haben, hat er uns an das Hotel Dolphin etwas weiter oben weiter geleitet. Wir können dieses Hotel leider nicht empfehlen.
