A complete disappointment - what could be a splendid hotel bearing in mind its natural beauty, (and used as an Exodus Adventure Travel hotel of choice) this hotel sadly lacks any kind of maintenance whatsoever and has minimum number of staff on duty. I was allocated a damp, dark 'garden room' (No 201) which smelled of mould and damp so requested a room move. Given a main hotel room (No 14) which has the main kitchen extractor fans located on the balcony. Trying to sleep was impossible, so another room move requested (No. 247) when I could finally sleep. With bulbs blown in the room, a filthy, unswept balcony and broken chairs, untended landscaping full of weeds and a restaurant that closed at 8.40pm for meals - this certainly wasn't the Exodus luxury vibe I was anticipating. The location means any alternative for food is either a car or taxi ride away - there's nothing within walking distance. The 'buffet' breakfast the following morning lacked any kind of finesse or luxury with minimal, basic fare (no fresh fruit, yoghurt) served cold or at best, lukewarm. Final straw was when I asked for a sewing kit from reception - we don't have that sort of thing was the reply. Run down and in need of a major overhall. Painters Lodge, once was enough for me thanks. Exodus Travel - your clients deserve better than this.

Very run down. Poorly kept facilities. Broken drug paraphernalia on patio. Hair in bathroom. Asked about a hot tub. Was told yes there’s a hot tub. After I got my room the hot tub turned out to be broken. Room had large permanent stains on carpet.

It’s a bit of a curates egg. The grounds are beautiful and the initial appearance of the hotel itself with its large foyer and Resturant overlooking the river are of a high end four star establishment. It has a marina office offering fishing and other trips and a large boat dock as well as plenty of parking near to the rooms. Our problems started with a receptionist who struggled with both English and French. So sorting out issues was difficult. This service improved later in our stay and at the end received a cheery goodbye. We were handed a paper with a statement about their Wyndham Green eco policy (which seemed to us an attempt to justify the limited room service). In this regard it operates like a motel with limited room servicing (every three days), and a cardboard cup each! The maintenance of the builds and rooms is poor with damaged roofs left unrepaired and ripped felt on the walkways. The rooms were a good size and serviceable, but rather dated and they could certainly do with a refresh. The room does have WiFi, a working kettle and coffee machine (and a noisy fridge which we turned off a night). The bathroom had a horrible clingy shower curtain and very tired bathmat (which we discarded). There was no plug for the bath but the shower was good but we found hair in the outlet. The ocean view was fine - marginally compromised by the riverfront building (whose rooms probably offer the best views). It’s also very quiet despite being busy with overnighters. We did not use the restaurant. One night the foyer was monopolised by a noisy extended family so we kept away.

The cabin we rented was expensive and had no view of the water and was very dated and there were cobwebs. While the beds were comdortable it was not what expected given the cost. The restaurant was closed which was disappointing. Chec king in was challenging as the staff spoke only broken English

This hotel is in the most beautiful spot, right on the water at Campbell River - but mainly it gives off ‘1980s Kellerman Resort’ vibes, like a time warp from Dirty Dancing. The whole report seemed empty and run down, inspite of me being told they were fully booked when we asked to switch rooms. We had a two story family room. The kids were too scared to sleep upstairs. Massive cobwebs, creaky noises, and really hot upstairs bedroom. bathroom last updated in the 80s. We had a pretty good sleep, but the grubby carpets in the room itself made you wish your brought flip flops to wear indoors. The gate to the pool area was constantly jammed. The hot tubs are long gone. The restaurant looked weird. We brought some food from outside and ate it on the dock which gave us the best dining experience! All in all, I was glad we stayed because we had the most amazing time whale watching with Campbell River whale Watching (not the hotel people), but the hotel itself was tired, run down, grubby, and slightly creepy!

We had booked from 12 to 14 September at the Painter's Lodge. We got the room we ordered with Ocean View with beautiful views of the river. The gardens looked well-kept and the flowerbeds were full of flowering plants. The room was clean, the beds good and the bathroom small but clean. No AC, but the fan complied. The breakfast was simple, but good enough. We only ate once in the restaurant. The food was good enough for us. The hotel could use a facelift and the lack of an elevator was a shame. We spent three nights here without any problems and especially enjoyed the beautiful surroundings.

We stayed 5 nights in this lodge beginning of september 2024. Positive: The location directly at the sea is wonderfull. Our suite (004) in the main building was huge with an excellent view The garden is well maintained and very nice. The lady working in the bar makes an excellent job. The food quality in the restaurant was very nice. Negative: The hotel prices are much too high for the value you receive. The reception team is overstrained, works extremely slow and they have no knowledge about the hotel and their services. The room was not really clean, some items weren't cleaned / wiped for months. The house keeping is not existing. It was written that the room will be done after 3 nights. They just empty the trash. The reception told me that they would make the hole room service the next morning (means 4. night). Well nothing was made, nobody came into our room. The room card key did not work for 4 times during our stay. So we always had to go down to the receiption to receive a new electronical key card. The breakfast is very poor in variety and quality. It was also not well organized and needed items had always to be asked for. Opening hours were from 07.00 a.m. But breakfast was never ready at this time. It always took about 45 minutes before the food, dishes and cutlery was ready. The first morning, breakfast was not available, because of "no staff available". The restaurant and/or the bar were at times closed because of "not enough staff". I asked the reception lady at check out for a 15% discount for all of these matters. She told me that she will check this with the management. Until today, I did not receive any reaction on my request. I sent my feedback to Wyndham Hotels and the only reaction was that they would like to hear more about these issues (which I already sent in detail to theim). Also no reaction concerning my 15% discount). Overall an unpleasing experience.

We were traveling up island from Vic to Telegraph Cove and needed a stop-over spot for kids' sake. The place looked lovely online... but either the photos were taken a while back or someone only took shots of the best looking spaces on the property. The building we were in had dry-rot on the second floor walkways to the rooms (covered over by cheap, outdoor carpeting), the beds were all creaky (like LOUD), and the place just seemed to be in a late 80's/early 90's timewarp with fixtures/lighting/decor. Such a shame. The location is amazing, the prioperty is a wonderful lay-out, clearly it's family friendly, and you can tell it terrific when it was first built! But no one is maintaining it in the fashion it needs. The white-out used on the room key folder (where the staff writes the room number) was my first clue we were not in for the stay we had hoped for. Unless we read that Wynham had finally remodled the place, we would not stay here again.
