First, if you want oceanfront this is as close as it gets! However, the water comes all the way up making it impossible to sit on beach or fly kites…We drove down the road to enjoy a nice wide open beach. The room was dirty and very old in need of much updating. Mold on lampshade, husband had to rig the shower rod so that shower curtain would close, no table in room (had to eat standing up), kept removing cockroach/palmetto bugs from room and more! After mentioning these things, the manager ?addressed them with mean attitude however they knew about everything so why weren’t they done before renting room? We paid $609.20 to stay here for 2 nights!! Also, forget about sitting on porch enjoying view. We got to watch and listen to machine ‘plow’ sand directly in front of us both days. No peaceful relaxing at this hotel at all. No compensation of any kind offered.

Nice clean rooms for a reasonable price. Staff is very friendly and attentive to any issues. I often stay here in the fall during my fishing trips and it couldn’t be located in a better place for great food, bait shops, and best of all the point is about a 3 minute drive away.

This hotel is located as close to the lighthouse as you can get and it is beach front. The beach area isn't large but it wasn't crowded even over the 4th of July. The amenities are older but we loved it. The staff was very friendly & helpful. The office is located across the highway but they will bring you anything you need.

Lovely townhouse suite! Ocean right outside your door. Very peaceful and safe. Enjoyed every minute in the townhouse suite we had. Will definitely be going back. Great place to take your family. Very clean. Just remodeled. It was very comfortable.

Hatteras Motel was right on the water, so close that the buildings may not be there next year. However the stay was excellent and the staff were very kind. The wind was up for the three days we were there and the waves were crashing. It was a very nice change from the drought we escaped from in Texas.

You have to scratch your head some time when you look at a wooden structure on stilts literally built into a Sandune within feet of a roaring ocean in the center of the hurricane region on Cape Hatteras. In Short this is a weird and wonderful place to put a hotel or a motel as it were in this case, but Boy, is it an experience . We were skeptical when we drove up to the place, because from the outside this wonderful idiosyncratic lodging looked like it was from the outside, a shingled structure on its last legs, about to fall into that sand dune, on whose other side the ocean was raging. There were indeed signs of robust reconstruction or recent renovation on closer inspection, including new staircases and siding but when we got to our room on the top floor, any doubts vanished, and we were in complete awe of the location. If you can manage three flights of wooden stairs – there is no elevator – you can get a very large room on an outside corridor, with a balcony, running the whole length of the ocean, facing building, where you can look directly over the tip of the sand dune and see the waves coming in literally right beneath your nose. This is an intoxicating site in the evening, and in the morning when the sun rises and you get the full blast of the morning wind and the waves, and literally with dolphins dancing in the morning light and those crazy surfers right beneath you catching waves in the frigid December ocean to the beach. This town is mostly closed in December but this hotel is not, and is highly recommended not just for the view, but also because someone has put some money into this place recently , and the room was very clean a very viby collection of 50s and 60s type retro furniture and a nice little kitchen and a very good bathroom and sink, all pretty spotless and also a great bed. There was no breakfast in the off-season, but they may have that in the off-season when I am sure the prices go up. While this place is still standing and evading the strong wins and storms that sweep through this area, it is well worth a visit not just for the view, but also for the whole funky thing of it all. Indeed, it reminded me of Frank Zappa‘s description of the famous motel he stayed at on the waterfront in, I think, Seattle, as described in the song, Mud Shark, where, he said, you could stick a pole out the balcony, and do anything you want with it if you know what I mean… Including catching mud sharks in that case. In this case there are dolphins and of course you wouldn’t want to do that. … but enjoy nonetheless.!!

Motel was OK you can't expect much in Cape Hatteras I guess. Ocean view pretty good but accommodations could definitely been better considering the price. Air conditioning was cold at least. Floors are creaking and pillows are worn.

The location is perfect. Right after Avon and at the start of Buxton. Loved being able to walk out right on the beach and enjoy the views from the outdoor seating area! Would recommend having some sort of door mat to cat sand at the entry of every room, along with an in room broom. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

We had a wonderful time staying at this hotel. We had planned to come back to visit since we only got to stay one night, actually only 12 hours to be exact. I got home and noticed there was an extra $200 charge on my credit card. I called to see why we were charged an additional $200 on top of the already expensive nightly fee of $300 per night. The owner told me we were charged for a broken mirror. I assured her we had not broken any mirror and if we had, as small business owner myself, I would have let someone know upon leaving. She stated we were the last ones in the room. She sent us this picture which clearly looks like it slid down and fell off the wall. Unfortunately, someone has to pay for a broken mirror and we are being blamed for it. Most expensive night at a hotel that’s definitely not worth it. We won’t be staying here again.
