Afternoon tea - very disappointing We had booked a table in advance and clearly the food had been pre-prepared as it was given to us before the whole party had arrived. It did not seem fresh, some food lacking flavour and other parts stale. We were given standard pots of tea and coffee initially without an order taken. The wine list was only partly available and then after serving us we were left to our own devices. Standards have slipped and the Ravenwood is overpriced with much better alternatives locally

We were disappointed with Ravenwood Hall. It promised much but sadly did not deliver. Staff seemed a bit stretched but a least friendly. Decor is tired and shabby in places. The bedside light in our room did not work. We reported this when we went for dinner but nothing was done. The room was not as clean as it could have been. The bath enamel was chipped and the cold bath tap just trickled water! This made it hard to control the temperature! Dinner was a disappointment. We are vegetarian and the only choice was veg lasagne @£18 This was at least home made but a small portion lacking flavour and a bit of parmesan would have gone a long way. This was accompanied by soggy supermarket garlic bread (microwaved?) and packet salad devoid of dressing? Bed was two singles pushed together (hard matresses) so not ideal. Bright external lights on all night, shone in and curtains were inadequate. So to breakfast. Morning staff were friendly. Went for the veggie breakfast. Plates came spread all over with baked beans with the other items on top. Lacked finess. Also the all important veggie sausages were missing. We told the waitress and we did get them eventually! All in all not good despite friendly staff. Could be great but attention to detail needed!

An atmospheric Tudor hotel set in large grounds with a welcoming and friendly feeling. The staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. Our room was breath taking, with chandlers in the lobby and bathroom (bath and separate walk in shower) a magnificent brass canopied bed with loads of room and even a very comfortable two seater sofa. The room was exceptionally clean. Dinner was well cooked and presented and very enjoyable, as was breakfast after an excellent nights sleep, even if various owls were hooting in the background (you are in the country after all). We had a magical time and have booked again.

Like many of the other reviews this hotel has so much potential if some love was lavished on it. The setting is lovely and the staff were all really pleasant. Our Mews room 7 overlooked the wedding venue so no early night for us. I can honestly can say this is one of the worst rooms I have ever stayed in. It smelt awful when we arrived but we did not find the cause until we opened the curtains on the door the next morning to find it absolutely covered in mould. The carpet was stained, dusty, dirty, dead flies, rust shower rail, cracked bath. There was a strange mix of decor, odd furniture covered in bits of cloth just weird. Dinner was average, breakfast was good served by a really lovely lady- thank you. Oh and if you are resident and want a drink from the bar after 10pm you will be out of luck!

The best roast dinner we’ve had in a long time. Three of us went and all had something different. Everything was delicious. Great selection of veg and a cauliflower cheese. Excellent service. Friendly, attentive staff. Great value for money. We will be back soon

Dreadful place. Room dirty and smelling musty and damp with threadbare carpet. Service in the restaurant extremely slow and food of a poor standard, often tepid and certainly not hot. When we complained we were told they were ‘busy’. There was obviously insufficient staff and goodness knows what was going on in the kitchen. The food was hardly edible on occasions. The ‘manager’ was very unhelpful. The grounds looked lovely but would have been improved if the dog faeces had been picked up! Not a good experience and would not recommend this place!,

The hotel is a delight but having read other reviews I agree wholeheartedly. So much potential here but not enough staff and lack of attention to detail in the rooms. Ours had a cracked pane which looked awful. At dinner we had long waits for our order to be taken but food was on the whole very good. Breakfast the following morning was good too. Bill on checkout was incorrect and we had been undercharged. We did point this out and it was corrected. Staff were all very friendly and helpful even when we had a surprise visitor join us for our sweet course. We would stay again but would hope things might be a little better then.

I have a thing for Victoriana so when I saw the photos of the settings and the rooms I booked the Saxon room for our wedding night. I should have read the reviews properly, unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations, the furniture and furnishings were very shabby and unloved, dust in all the corners of the chairs paintings and furniture, threadbare carpet and the mattress wasn't fit for "purpose" it sagged in the middle so we both rolled into the middle causing a very uncomfortable night. The bathroom was equally poor, a shower that barely had any water power and a shower cubicle that was dirty and water that didn't drain away. Some of the staff seemed a little uninterested, when we came back from our wedding party we were laden with my wife's luggage and wedding gift bags, i had my hands full with suit case so couldn't help and her dress was restricting her movement up the stairs, i thought that the receptionist and bar person might have offered a helping hand but no, they completely ignored us so i had to dump my cases and take my wifes luggage up the stairs, to start again with tge other two doors, i just thought a little more attendance might have been helpful, just a very poor experience over-all. If it had any good points, the claw foot bath was enjoyed by my wife, and the breakfast was also most enjoyable, booked an extra hour for late departing of the room but left early. P.S. the grounds were well maintained but were let down by the amount of tab ends scattered about near the entrance, but I don't suppose you can police the public, or maybe put ash bins around.
