Most of the hotels in San Ignacio are away from the center of town and sometimes pretty far away. The Cohune Palms is also out of town but not a long drive to go back to restaurants or shops. Of course it's setting feels so different from the town, in a good way. One needs to know that it has a more rustic feel than some of the higher priced places, but that is what we came for. No televisions, A/C, etc. However, they have fans in the rooms and even though I was worried about the heat my worries were unfounded as it cools off well at night and the location makes it cool during the day. We had a car and so it was easy to get around from the Cohune Palms and they were kind enough to let us leave our car there as we went over to Guatemala for a couple of days. When we came back we took a taxi from town and the cost was only 5BZE per person. I would think that the food would be quite good but we only had breakfast there one day, for I think 12USD, and it was really good. As others reviewers mentioned, everyone there was super friendly and helpful. We were glad to have stayed there and would recommend it to others if you are looking for that type of experience.
