Mount Pleasant Campus - The University of Buckingham

Great location right near Victoria Coach Station and a 20 min walk to Buckingham Palace. My room, a standard room, was for 2 nights. The room was exceptionally clean, bright and with a well appointed bathroom, really clean carpet and well lit. The room had plenty of accessible power points and very nice sheets and fast WIFI. It was downstairs and there are no lifts however the staff were very helpful and offered to carry my luggage. Breakfast was included in my rate and it was just a basic breakfast, cereal, fruit juice, tea or coffee and toast but it was very adequate. On the whole I was very and pleasantly surprised.

This is one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in and it was booked as a treat for my partner’s birthday. I should have realised before we arrived as phoned five times to get booking confirmation and a copy of the menu sent to me but to no avail. Plus the second time I phoned they said I hadn’t booked and I had to book again. Then on the day of arrival I was phoned to ask why I had two bookings. On arrival, waited for about five minutes while the receptionist was on the phone and wasn’t acknowledged even with a smile. I was asked to put £50 deposit which wasn’t stated at the time of booking. Was given key and made our way to the room through weird smelling corridors. Nothing in the room made it welcoming. It was dingy and awful. We had a look at the pool as planned to swim. It looked okay but there were no loungers around it so not the sort of place you could relax in. In the evening we had dinner in the hotel restaurant which had no atmosphere whatsoever. On arrival we were told to sit anywhere we liked so we did. Then we got told to ‘shift’ by a waitress as we weren’t sitting in the right area. Food arrived which was okay but you’d expect a bit more effort for the price. Drinks were expensive too. Didn’t have a good night’s sleep and in the morning I told the duty manager we were checking out early as the hotel was not good. No way was I going to subject my partner to this horror on his birthday. The manager did not ask one question about the reasons we wanted to leave which was shocking. An awful hotel with staff who just don’t seem to care.

The hotel is situated within easy travel to Silverstone. The restaurant is very good and the staff are excellent. The room was spacious with a table and chairs which was a nice touch. The only problem we had was with the shower curtain. It was a bit clingy whilst in the shower.
