We decided to visit Buckfastleigh after doing family research that indicated my husband had ancestors from this area. We visited as part of our trip to England from Canada. When we arrived at the Globe Inn, the Manager was very lovely and interested in our search for family. The room was very clean, which is very important. It should be noted that this is an old building, and so we were not surprised that it looked a bit old and tired. We found the bed very comfortable and had everything we needed. The shower in the bathroom has no stall, so the floor gets quite wet. The food was fantastic, and we really enjoyed the Sunday roast. Unfortunately, if you plan to stay during the off-season, you might not be able to eat at the pub. A few nights, we were surprised to discover that there would be no supper, and we had a hard time finding a place to eat as we had no vehicle and the options were very limited. The pub is noisy; again, being an older building, the bedrooms upstairs will hear the noise. We didn't find that this disturbed us. We enjoyed sharing drinks and stories with many of the locals who came to the pub in the evening. They were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Through chatting with several, we discovered that my husband had distant relatives who still lived in the area. After several calls, we met up with them, and we owe thanks to our new friends who made the connections possible. Overall, I would say that we enjoyed our stay and would come back again. If you are looking for newer or quieter options, this is not the place to stay. If you want to experience authentic village life that goes back hundreds of years and visit with friendly locals over good food, this is the place to stay! It was one of the highlights of our trip!

I want to warn everybody, avoid this place at all costs. We spent one ghastly night there, but never again. We'd booked a double room via ***********, which is usually reliable, but not this time. The bedsheets on the twin beds were UNWASHED which is unforgivable. The sheets had been roughly pulled into place but the deep creases were a giveaway (photos). Torn sheets had been used to hide the base of the beds (photos). The whole room was scruffy and dirty with stains on the carpet and floor (photo); dust everywhere; damaged radiator (photo), torn blind (photo), the shaver light, which, of course, didn't work, held together with tape (photo); wires and rubbish behind cupboard between beds(photo). The duvets supplied were winter weight on the the 1st of July in a heatwave. There was nowhere to hang a towel, or place a wash-bag in the basic shower room, and the shower drain was right next to the loo (photo) so if we had had a shower, the whole floor would have been soaked. We had been warned that the room might be a bit noisy as it was a Saturday night but the booming, horribly out of tune racket, right beneath our room (No.4), was so loud we couldn't hear our phones let alone the television. We expected it to stop at 11pm but it went on until midnight followed by loud voices and bustle in the street. In the morning at 9.30, we found we were locked in on the upper floor and had no option but to leave the keys in a tin and exit via the steep fire escape at the back of the building. We couldn't wait to get home, have a decent shower and feel clean again.

We had a fabulous holiday using the Globe as a jump off point for our day trips all around Devon and Cornwall, neil ( the stand in manager!) Was so helpful in our daily trips as he is a wealth of information on both devon and Cornwall! We have english heritage and National trust memberships so that made our days cheaper, but still took in some old haunts from our past and some new ones with help of Neil! The Globe room (room two) was pretty large and had plenty of drawers and wardrobe space and the bed comphortable, bedding and towels changed twice weekly, a water dispenser on the passageway, the room also had a wet room, very good, shower was very good, The breakfast excellent, evening meals are very good but the selection could be better! (The Globe was taken over four months ago so there still finding there feet!) Downside was no food on Sunday and Monday evenings, there is a chienese takeaway just 75 yards away and you can eat it in the Glode restraunt, but even that's closed Monday evening so be prepared drive out for tea? The village is small but has a co-op just a few yards round the corner that has late hours they also sell sandwiches, Beer was adequate, Staff all very friendly and helpful, there is a steam railway close by for steam train rides to town and back, and also a butterfly and otter farm at the same place, and buckfast abby in the next village, only a mile or so, that's an ancient Abbey that looks new! It's amazing In the Globe expect a little noise Friday and Saturday nights, as you are above a public house, 😉 it didn't bother us though! There's a fushshop opposite which in room two you look over? Very good fish and chips also! There's cafes in the street so can get a good cup of coffee In all a very nice stay and will probably use it again in the future,

Great old pub in a lovely village very near the very popular SDR heritage railway line to Totnes. Good real including the famous Jail Ale from Dartmoor brewery and lovely pub grub at fair prices. Well worth a visit with Buckland Abbey very near. As most Glaswegian know the home of Buckie, the famous wine from the monitory.

Arrived quite late for lunch & delighted to be able to change chips for baked potato with no trouble. Lovely scampi & chips (and one scampi with baked potato!) Well patronised by locals too, which is good to see. Will go here again if in the area.

I only stayed the one night for work but everyone was very friendly, the room was good and the pub itself was great. The town seemed nice from the little I saw too. I also cycled from the inn to Totnes in the evening which was a great little ride.

Booked a Sunday lunch to save cooking before going on holiday. Very tasty roast beef, roast potatoes to die for and the cauliflower cheese was one of the best I've ever tasted. The roast was so well cooked. We received excellent service. Being local we will be back. Thank you.
