The old hotel has been renovated and is probably a very small and comfortable hotel. The lobby, facade and room layout are all light and luxurious, but the bathroom seems to have been forgotten and does not match the style of the room at all. It is a bit out of place.

We booked this hotel based on the online reviews. We weren’t sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. What an amazing property. The decor and attention to detail were amazing. Equally impressive was 555 North. Great cocktails and food. What else could you ask for in a hotel.

I came to Brunswick to visit my daughter and wanted to stay at The Federal to try some place different. I called several times before our arrivavl to be sure that everything was in order (my daughter was on the reservation and could check in before my arrival, etc.). Upon check-in, I was assigned room 201 at the top of the stairs. I asked if it was near an elevator because I didn't wnat to be near an elevator. I was told that it was the room closest to the elevator and it was the only room they had left. I was also told that it wasn't loud near the elevator. This was a complete lie. Every time the elevator arrived (ding! ding!) and every party waiting for the elevator or getting off talked and talked right next to our door. I was awoken in the middle of the night and the very first thing in the morning. I planned to let the front desk know upon check out; however, I waited and waited and nobody came to the front desk to check me out. I finally left the hotel after being tired of waiting. I like the hotel location, decor, and price point, but I would not stay here again. Also, the pillows and bed were not comfortable. I will gladly pay more to stay some place else.

The Federal Hotel is a well-run, well-thought-out small hotel for adults who can afford to send their children to nearby Bowdoin College without taking out student loans. While many 21st Century hotels strive to have a "New Yorker" magazine vibe, but only end up looking like Dr. Suess did the decor, the Federal actually pulls it off down to the last detail and final bottle of Argentinian Pinot Noir wine in its pricey, trendy, good restaurant. The elevator music is a Pandora feed called 'Chilltopia". That's says it all.

We were up visiting from Florida with friends and we went to 555 restaurant and had an awesome dinner so awesome that the multiple Federal Martini’s-got to me and I lost a brand new bracelet at the restaurant. I thought it was gone forever and then Elizabeth Hinckley from the hotel made sure it got FedEx’d back to Florida to me and I just got it so thrilled & so excited for such awesome customer service. !!!!! & Ophelia at 555 was the best of the best ! Thank you all.

I am new to Brunswick and thought I would try The Federal to see if it would be a place we can enjoy the next four years while our student attends Bowdoin College. I was pleasantly surprised. I typically opt for new & modern and fully expected an old hotel experience which is not typically my style. I was pleasantly surprised. Not only is it updated and modern, I was extremely happy at how clean the room was given my allergy to dust. The housekeeper was top notch, friendly, and helpful. One nice touch was fresh coffee offered all morning on each floor. Every staff member I came in contact with was very hospitable & friendly. I was on the third floor facing the highway and given it was a full house weekend, the hotel was extremely quiet & beds were so comfortable. I also was impressed by dinner in 555 North which is clearly one of the more upscale restaurants in Brunswick. The only thing missing in this hotel is workout equipment. Cardio equipment and some dumbbells would go a long way in the yoga room especially given the long Maine winters. This would be the only reason I would choose another hotel over The Federal upon future visits.

What a delightful stay! The staff was warm & welcoming. Upon arrival they greeted us with Happy Anniversary Mr & Mrs Smith and Happy Birthday Mrs Smith. Additionally they left yummy celebration snacks in our room. The pictures are exactly As shown. My hubby loved the coff in the hallway.

Lovely hotel and stunning bar and restaurant. I stayed two nights under two different bookings. 1st night I paid extra for a more superior room and the next night I had a standard room. Turns out the standard rooms are bigger, have a tub as well as a shower over and a fridge. Yes some of the furniture may look slightly older. So why pay more for a room without a tub, fridge and smaller! I would definitely stay again and pick the standard room which are also a longer distance away from the highway.
