I stayed here for three nights on a trip that included various other places in Belgium. I held off writing this review until I had other things to compare it against. The pros : proximity to the city; this B&B is in a nice area, and very close to the city center. There are pubs within a five minute walk, and a little bit further from that is a lovely patisserie where you can get coffee and pastries for breakfast, fresh bread, and they have a lovely lunch. Bruges is very easy to orient yourself to once you walk around a bit. The proprietors were very quick to respond to my emails and texts. And the young woman. ( Ilena? Not sure of the spelling) that was there in the when I checked in and again when I checked out, was very sweet and helpful. The room was very clean and spacious. For younger couples, it could be considered romantic. I did peek at rooms on the lower floors that seem nice as well. I did not have breakfast there but it did look nice from what I saw. There was a very fancy espresso machine that you’re welcome to use but I really couldn’t figure it out. There was plenty of hot water for the shower, which was nice. The cons: overpriced for what you would expect. I wouldn’t consider this a B&B per se as the owner was never there. It would’ve been nice to at least meet them. I had a top floor attic room. There are large skylights with no window covering (bright in the morning) and the view out the windows was of a brick wall. The neighbors next-door were installing solar panels so there was a man literally standing outside my window in the morning. And there’s also construction on the street, not the owners fault, but my Taxi couldn’t 300m there, and the noise was horrendous from the construction. Street noise from cars and people walking back, laughing at night, was also quite disruptive as the building is not very soundproof at all. The stairs, leading up to the room are very steep spiral stairs, and the carpeting frayed and spotted. It was difficult to carry my one piece of carry-on luggage up those stairs. While my room was clean it appeared that they used it as storage space. The drawers were full of old Christmas ornaments and the closet had extra pillows and blankets, all thrown in it. The toilet is on the other side of the room from the shower and the sink/shower is in an open figuration where you can see it from the bed. There is also a little ledge in the shower area and also going out the door that is very easy to trip over. And the bathroom towels were definitely in need of replacement as they were very thin. The whole decor of this room seemed to be sort of thrift store type decor. While comfortable , it just looked worn. Also, the TV did not have any kind of channels to it, only Netflix. It would’ve been nice to have a small coffee pot in the room and been able to watch the news in the mornings. I don’t really go on vacation to watch a movie in my room. It just seems that the white queen is a tired queen.
