The Astra Hotel

Conveniently located, this accommodation provides spacious, comfortable rooms with excellent service. Guests appreciate the cleanliness and enjoy the breakfast options. However, some may find the dining experience lacking variety.

I caught the Outback Explorer train to Broken Hill and The Astra is an easy 10 minute stroll from the station. The train arrived half an hour late, but they were waiting for us at reception and organised a late dinner for us. They had also gone upstairs and switched on the heating so my room would be nice and cozy. While the hotel is old style with only 8 rooms, it has been renovated. It has no lift, but that wasn’t an issue. There are only 4 car parking spaces, but I always found a spot for the car I hired.. There was also plenty of parking in the street. It’s supposed to only 2 hours, but it doesn’t seem to be an issue. The bed was very comfortable, the shower had good water pressure and the wifi was strong. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the cheerful staff, who went out of their way to make it a pleasant stay, suggesting ideas of where to visit, eat and drink. I had an issue with the TV, caused by the previous occupant fiddling with the settings. The young man on reception, Patrick, was marvellous and spent half an hour reinstalling and resetting it. The cleaners were thorough and friendly, also willing to help make my stay better with ideas and advice. Free breakfast cereals and milk were a godsend on a day when I had to make an early start. The onsite restaurants were also excellent and reasonably priced. Good outback hospitality all round . Highly recommended.

Central and comfy! We had a great stay, accommodation even better than i had expected! Central to everything in broken hill, great cocktails in the bar, breakast was wonderful too!
