On arrival it seemed there was one young member of female staff on the desk, managing everything. She had an irate couple in front of us, who's issue could not be dealt with (I don't know what it was about) but as there was only one staff, the queue steadily built up, and no-one was around to help her. When it came to our turn, the staff had to go up to the room to check it was ready, then it was the wrong room, then it was decided the room had been given away to someone else, and they gave us a family room. All this took over half an hour. The following morning, at breakfast, there were more staff, mostly standing about talking loudly about their own plans, about not being able to find a pencil, sashaying about the place but doing very little. We didn't eat in the restaurant, as we were meeting friends in Breda, but a look at the menu revealed nothing innovative, very limited scope. The website trumpets change, 'doing things in the 'new school way', well, I'd get the 'old school way' right first. The hotel is a beautiful space, with a sense of history (but little made of the great scientific work that took place there) Quality fittings and design make it a stand out venue. The staff were better suited to a local workaday bar.

Beautiful property. Lots of potential. However surly and sullen service to be expected by arrogant young staff, poor choice of options on restaurant menu, and heavily inflated prices for 3 pieces of vegetables!! Rooms are comfortable and wine list impeccable. But…not a “gezellig “ experience”…
