This hotel is inadequate on so many levels. Grossly overpriced for the level of service and quality of the experience. Significant investment in refurbishment, maintenance and staff training is needed. The tone was set from the outset, with no one at reception, until we’d rung the bell 3 times, when the manager appeared. The outside areas were very crudely maintained, with numerous overgrown areas. The quality of the housekeeping was poor, with dead flies, dust and cobwebs in numerous places. The glass in the doors collected finger marks for the 3 days we were there, and my request for this to be addressed was ignored. The room curtains featured shredded linings. The food offering was very average and overpriced. I have never seen such small scallops, or such a minute and poorly-cooked steak (£35!).Belly pork was OK, but small portion. I have had better breakfasts at a Travelodge. A soggy buffet, with no à la carte options. No butter or milk jug on the table. Honey ´on request’ (why?). No fresh flowers anywhere, just some ancient dead ones. One server, doing his best. In summary, this hotel seems poorly managed, very understaffed, substandard and lacking in the attention to detail one would expect for over £300 a night. It will require huge investment to bring back any semblance of its full potential.

Make no mistake this is a beautiful hotel seset in a lovely part of the world. We had only one night there and we could have stayed. Much about it was excellent. The staff are lovely -hardworking and friendly. But they clearly areunsupported by any obvious manager and, because of that appear not to always know what they are doing. This is shame because it's what hotels are judged on. Please help them!!

Just returned from a short break with our friends before the children break up from school for the summer break. I firstly want to commend the two managers for their work. We arrived and faced a small delay checking in due to over 80 people having hot drinks and cakes in the communal lounges. It was later explained that a staff member had walked out and left Jeremy & Abbie to work alone serving these guests, whilst also conducting check in and check out, and I presume their usual management tasks. Although disappointed at having to wait I cannot fault their level of dedication. Our room was large and very comfortable although it did need a little dusting just above the bed. Food was outstanding on both nights especially the grilled watermelon starter and pork belly main. We only eat toast for breakfast so cannot comment on any hot food served. I will say that as somebody who has been career hospitality and spent over 30 years running my own hotel, the venue does need more staff. We saw Jeremy and Abbie from breakfast through to leaving the restaurant in the evening and again when checking out in the morning. However, I do understand that the industry as a whole is suffering from shortages. The young waitress helping in the evening was polite but was still learning. Thank you all for a lovely stay and I hope that Interesting Hotels can take this feedback and acknowledge how hard these two individuals work.

Just returned from a 2 night break at this lovely hotel. Room & grounds were nice but unfortunately that’s where it stopped. Food on first night was actually very good but I ordered the same meal the following night which resembled nothing like it! My husband ordered ‘medium’ steak which was rare - needless to say both were returned and replaced. Mine was ok but the steak was more undercooked than the first effort🤦♀️ Undercooked chips etc unbelievable. Our waitress Ella was a delight and tried to deal with the problem in the best way she knew how with obviously no training and felt so sorry for her - no manager in sight which obviously is the norm for him leaving youngsters to take the flak for diabolical service through no fault of theirs. I asked to meet with him the next morning but unfortunately he’d gone for a walk in the garden🤣 but as deduction for dinner had been made decided didn’t really want confrontation with him spoiling my day. He seems to have a bad attitude according to a number of previous guests - he should be called the ‘invisible man’ taking into account his non existence in the hotel. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful place and sure anybody else running this establishment would have pride and be hands on with the young staff training and making it a happy place to work but obviously not him. Personally don’t think this place will survive much longer in the wrong hands as it is now. Will also mention breakfast was complete shambles including luke warm food and powdered scrambled egg. Will mention many thanks to Kayleigh on reception who was also delightful and great help considering she seems to be running everything single handed. Needless to say we won’t be returning or recommending to anybody.

Lovely old building amongst beautiful gardens. Decor would benefit from some tlc. Bedroom curtain linings were in shreds, why haven’t they been replaced. A restricted menu for dinner but found something, food was okay only, a little on the cold side . Breakfast was a shambles, only 1 waiter who was doing his very best. No butter for our toast to be found, asked waiter who kindly brought us some after telling us that butter had to be requested. No milk jugs for tea/coffee, we poured some milk into a juice glass. Other guests followed suit. We did have a laugh about it all, another guest said it’s like Faulty Towers. This hotel needs money spending on it to bring it up to scratch, until then I won’t be returning.

Lovely Hall and grounds…sadly there were several areas that need improving, if it wants to rate as a Luxury Hotel. We asked to speak with the manager, he was not available. There seems to be a lack of staff, the ones that were there were very young and polite. Nobody at reception to greet you upon arrival or departure. Every time you had to ring the bell if you required assistance. Upon departure we were charged for glasses of wine we never had, this was rectified. We were in room 7 very clean and comfortable with nice view. The small shower head was very loose there was no shower gel, luckily I had some of my own. The evening meal was well presented but luke warm and bland. Breakfast was nice also luke warm. We never received milk upon arrival for tea as stated on the laminate card which we discovered the next morning mixed in with the brochures. Hopefully the manager will make these few improvements for future guests.

I booked this hotel through Secret Escapes as a 70th birthday treat for my wife .Got off to a bad start when I got a message saying they could not accept the dates I had booked as Secret Escapes had made a mistake and I needed to change them. I checked their website my booked dates where still available, I eventually got through to them by e mail as they were impossible to contact by phone and explained they where still showing my dates as available, they then explained it was all a mistake the message should have gone to someone else.. ..How I wish I had cancelled at this point. The approach to the hotel is everything you would wish for, private driveway leading down to the impressive looking hotel in a stunning location. 0n arrival at the hotel, there was no one in reception so we rang the bell and waited a while, eventually a man arrived and attempted to check us in. He wasn't at all welcoming and we got the impression that we were a nuisance. He struggled to use the laptop to check us in, had to do something on his phone and he did eventually manage. He showed us to our room and did carry our luggage up for us. We discovered at this point to our surprise that he was the general manager. The room was a good size, first impression was good, however paint was peeling off the wall in one place, the curtain lining had a very large tear, it all needs updating. The bathroom was very nice, with a TV on the wall? extremely comfortable good sized bed. The staff were mostly young, friendly but didn't seem to know what they were doing, (we discovered a couple of them had only been there 2/3 weeks) with the exception of one who seemed to be there day and night, unfortunately we didn't get her name. The food in the restaurant was very good and we enjoyed our meals on both nights, its a shame the flowers on the table were dead. Very random service, some tables got bread before the meal, some got water if you were lucky you got both. We weren't. Breakfast was a total shambles, it was a buffet set up in the bar so you had to carry it over to the dining room. This wouldn't have been a problem apart from the fact you'd got people going in to fetch food as well as people attempting to get out with food. It needed a traffic light system as it was busy. The first morning breakfast was great, food was hot, second morning we were down at the start, 8am to miss the rush and were surprised to find the food was luke warm. We didn't bother to complain as we had given up at this point and were glad to be leaving. At checkout we found the bill to be very confusing, we queried a couple of items and got a considerable refund with no argument. We did suggest that they provide an itemised bill but were told this was not possible.

The positives were friendly service and a nice dining room. We were there for dinner. The food was awful and a terrible waste of money. My wife and I had chicken for main course. It consisted of a third of a breast of chicken 2 or 3 serving spoons of rice, 10 to 15 pieces of sweetcorn (it was supposed to be sweetcorn custard), one pineapple ring (possibly half a ring) cut up in to small pieces. I can't imagine the ingredients cost more than £5. They charged £25. My starter was a fishcake at £15 and that was really a potato cake. I have had lovely meals locally for that price. I was stunned how bad it was, yet the restaurant was full. We were guests of our family or I would have complained at the time. We ate there about 5 or 6 years ago and it was slightly better but not value for money then either.
