Stayed 5 nights using points at this fantastic property. Overall experience was stellar. As a Bonvoy Titanium member got an upgrade to a beach villa, which was a wonderful surprise. Did originally book the sunset overwater villa. There are only 7 beach villas on the island. Got the beach as well as overwater villa experience in one package. Can highly recommend to choose this accommodation category. The overwater villas are also located quite a distance from the main Hub, where all the activities and most restaurants are located. Hotel offers free buggy rides from the villas, so you don’t have to walk unless taking it as an excercise routine. Did some extensive research before choosing this property and found that Le Meridien had the best price/quality ratio, at least in my experience. The property is 5-years old, so it is one of the most modern ones and they have kept good care of it. Resort is located on an island/atoll and from Malé it takes about 35 minutes to reach with seaplane flight, which will be arranged by the hotel. You will be met with the hotel representative upon exiting Malé Velana international airport and they’ll escort you to seaplane terminal, which is about 10 minutes bus ride away from the airport. All major hotel brands, which have properties requiring seaplane transfer, have their own lounges where guests can relax and have some snacks and beverages before taking the connecting flight to the resort. The atoll/island is very calm and tranquil. They have their own greenhouse where they grow salad and other vegetables for their kitchen operations. There is some wildlife to enjoy watching, some Indian flying dogs (rather large-scale bats) nest in the island. Don’t worry, they’ll only eat fruits. Eat only at the Turqoise restaurant, so cannot rate the other food outlets. Service and quality of food was great. Had half-board package, so breakfast and dinner was arranged at Turqoise. There are also other restaurants at the resort, serving different tastebuds from Japanese to Western kitchen treats. On the negative side, I would mention the packed beach/Au Soleil main pool area, which offers sunloungers for guests to enjoy sunbathing and taking refreshing dip into the warm Indian Ocean or the pool. The amount of sunloungers is very limited and despite these should be available as first come, first serve basis, guest’s tend to book the sunloungers for the day, despite roaming around the island. Staff do actually check occasionally if they notice that some loungeen have not been used for some time. Adding more sunbeds at least for the high season should be highly considered by the management.
