The Swan Hotel

A beautiful hotel with a lot of character and situated in the beating heart of the town. Room 8 was the best and most beautiful room with bath I stayed in since a long time. Friendly and accommodating staff. I stayed an extra day!

Pleasant Thai meal. 2 courses £56 with drinks in part pub, part restaurant, part hotel. Folk night mondays. Rumoured to be closing soon though , we understand. Landlord helpful and friendly Old building

An interesting hotel - shows some of its age - but that is expected considering the age of the building. I had no issues. Price was spot on. Clean, and comfortable. They provided basics in the room including Water - Still and Sparkling for free as a welcome gift [Bottle not free though! Ha]. If you have issues walk up steps then you need to reach out to them. Food at the pub was great - I had breakfast included in my reservation - very good food. Thank you to Oscar for his humor, customer service and professionalism. I stayed for 3 Days 2 Nights - no issues and if I needed anything they were all over the request in a timely fashion. Staff all positive, friendly and professional. Overall, I was very happy - I can get really picky about when I give 5 stars for a Inn or Hotel. This I gave 5 stars without reservation.

We called in for breakfast only. Menus were provided, although we noticed that no prices were stated. We chose our options after some banter with the waiter and as he walked away to place the order in the kitchen he informed us that breakfast, (full English) cost £ 16.50 each. The food, when it arrived was fine, however both the tea and the coffee were unpleasant to say the least. The orange juice was good. We had to wait by the office door to pay the bill, which we accepted would be a somewhat costly £66 for the 4 of us. Only on leaving did we discover that the bill totalled £72.60, due to a 10% service charge having been added on. When asked about using the Gents toilet, we were told to use the one outside. I now understand that this has been an issue for some time. The most expensive breakfast that we had during 3+ weeks away. Sadly, it was very far from bring the best one.

The bed was a child's bed, feet hung over the end and when spoke to staff about it I was yelled at, saying they do not need the business so take it or leave it, what staff worked (not many) didn't look at us again.
