Field House Guest House

Hotel has been taken over and is now called The Lakes Manor. We booked under the previous ownership (Field House Guest House) in August on ***********. Seen a few reviews saying people were having their bookings cancelled last minute so we tried to contact the hotel and got nowhere. Arrived at the hotel and there were no workers present. Got passed from pillar to post until the maintenance person and housekeeper managed to contact the main office of the new owners after 30/45 mins of trying. Their phone numbers were on a notice on the front door of the hotel. They managed to sort our booking out, but they were unaware of our stay as our booking did not transfer to their new booking system. Both were helpful but for a short time it looked like we weren’t going to have a room for NYE after travelling three hours to get there. The room was actually nice inside, very comfy bed but quite cold and the radiator didn’t work properly, leaving us cold at times.

As other recent reviews have mentioned, this has changed hands and our experience of a guesthouse being run at a distance wasn't a good one. I'll be contacting the new company in due course for further feedback on another issue but suffice it to say that a room with inadequate heating during a December stay in the lakes was far from ideal. The shower was the high point, being hot and powerful. Any thoughts of breakfasting in the kitchen, as suggested by a pre-stay email were discarded as this also appeared to be unheated too. Overall, not somewhere we would choose to stay again in its present form.

I made the booking for a Christmas getaway for 2 nights in October. Was really looking forward to it and a month before,an agency called me to say they've taken over the property but my reservation was still fine . I paid the reservation and 5 days before the trip,they cancelled the reservation and no explanation for it. They told me to contact *********** to get the refund and when *********** said I can rebook it,they refused.The agency is called The right property and they also sent me a dodgy email to pay by bank transfer after I paid it by *********** website.They literally ruined my Christmas trip and didn't care at all

We arrived early just after 2pm and all the rooms were ready and the windows and door were opened. This is a good idea to air the rooms. The previous hotel we stayed in was musty from the damp. Parking was behind the property. You will have to drive into The Belsfield Hotel and then turn sharp right into a lane marked "private parking". On *********** the pictures look like the decor was dated but in actual fact was pretty nice. The bed was very comfortable and the heater worked well. Everything was very clean. The bathroom was woefully small though with the shower area just next to the wc and with shower curtain. Somehow it worked well though and we had no problem using the facilities. Just be careful of that step up though. The location is good. Just a short walk to town where there are lots of shops and restaurants. The stairs! We were on the second floor. Lots of steps plus steps up from the carpark. Breakfast was just pastries, fruits, coffee or tea and juice. Would have preferred a cooked breakfast.

What a gem of a find! Perfect little guest house in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere. Couldn't get a better location and with a few parking spaces at the back of the property its perfect for a short break away. Hosts were friendly and welcoming and the guest house was clean throughout. Very happy with our room which did overlook the main road but we didn't come to the lakes to sit in our room so that wasn't a problem for us. Plenty of tea and coffee to make a morning cuppa in your room. We will 100% be back for another visit next year.

Host was extremely friendly and helpful. Parking is poor. It’s at the back of the property and only room for four cars at a push. There is paid parking not too far from the house. House would appear to be gradually being modernised. Location is excellent.
