We were greeted by a sarcastic doorman who was put out about our luggage. The accommodations are beyond basic. Worst part was being served shellfish when I am allergic to shellfish and the rest of my trip was impacted. The staff were rude and unapologetic in general. Stay at Prestonfield house instead. AMAZING staff, food, rooms, and service. Avoid Dalhousie, especially if you have food allergies!

Great hotel but unfortunately has its problems ie cold breakfast stayed 3 nights each morning breakfast was cold told staff but still cold the next day and the following day didn't bother just like the staff couldn't be bothered a.lot of money spent on poor service

Gorgeous hotel and beautiful public areas; the staff and hospitality is great; there is no elevator/lift so be warned, but still beautiful. The location is beautiful, but for some reason, Uber doesn't go that far out (so you have to order a taxi beforehand - they can and do come whatever time you want - no matter how early; the staff can help you reserve those).

This is a stunning historic hotel with beautiful rooms that is is wonderful to walk around and explore. In addition, our dinner in the Dungeon was delicious and the chef/staff were very accommodating and cognisant of my allergies. However, there are several service issues that should be addressed. First, I was double charged for my room because the system didn't show I had prepaid upon booking via Dalhousie's own website as I purchased a "Pay Today" promotion. I sent proof of payment with my bank statement and receipt, but the 2nd charge still posted and I have yet to receive a response to my email inquiring about the refund. Second, the majority of staff seemed very unhappy, stressed and unfriendly which made us feel rather unwelcome. They performed their jobs adequately, but for a luxury stay this was off-putting. Management should address why staff isn't happy. Third, the spa facilities could use a deeper cleaning/fixes. There was mold around the edges of the HydroPool and the body jets did not work. Also, upon filling the footbaths there was what appeared to be dead skin floating in the water. Fourth, WiFi doesn't reach well beyond the main area of the hotel. Limited to no service in guest rooms and side common rooms such as the library. If I am refunded my duplicate charge I will update my rating. We loved the beautiful of the hotel itself and the comfortable rooms, but the hospitality portion should be addressed for a luxury stay.

The castle was fantastic, we do highly recommend. 5-star staff, friendliness, and food. I would say, stay away from the Lodge accommodations until they resolve the WiFi connectivity as there is also no cellular signal, but otherwise, highly recommended experience.

How special to spend our last night in Scotland in a castle, complete with dinner in the dungeon. Our room was small but extremely comfortable with views of the surrounding countryside. The hotel staff went out of their way to take care of us. I will definitely return!

We had a great stay. Highly recommend the dungeon restaurant. The meal was delicious. We didn’t encounter any problems during our stay. Staff are very friendly, room clean and spacious. We also ate in the orangery which was also a really nice meal, the spa is small but lovely for an hour out your day to relax. We had treatments booked but was cancelled last minute due to staff sickness, this was disappointing as it was on our anniversary but no one’s fault and the member of staff was extremely apologetic and we didn’t let it ruin our day. I would definitely visit again.

Other castle stays are more luxurious and informative. We had deluxe four post rooms for us and my mom. Bathroom lighting could use much brighter bulbs, and exhaust fan. Morning shower turned the entire room into a sauna. The falconry experience (booked separately, at bottom of castle grounds) was the best part of our stay. Barry (I think I have that right) was so friendly and informative, introduced us to all of the birds, and coached us on how to be a good tree branch. Having a falcon land on your arm is a wonderful experience.

This is a fun castle experience with an incredible dining venue. Dinner in the Dungeon was delicious and so much fun. The staff seemed overwhelmed and not super friendly but the experience is one to remember. Book in the main building for the castle rooms. The lodge rooms are comfortable with updated bathrooms but feel more tucked in the woods.
