Dalhousie Castle Hotel

We stayed here for our daughter's wedding which took place at the castle. I was impressed how well organized it was. We had a pre wedding dinner for 10 in the orangery which was pre ordered. I thought some of the combinations on the menu wouldn't work well but the food was very good that evening and on the wedding day. The chapel was beautiful and perfect for a small wedding. The wedding breakfast in the dungeon was well presented, the staff knew what we had ordered without asking. Meals for the children and vegans/vegetarians were prepared individually. All the staff were very friendly. As we were a small party we were able to use the library for drinks after the meal which was just a nice size. The castle itself is beautiful as are the grounds. The rooms I saw seemed fine but ours was right at the top of the castle and we did find the large number of steps challenging. There isn't a lift, so ask for a low floor if your are less mobile. The spa is small but we enjoyed our complimentary 90minutes there.

Very friendly staff. Old style character to the place is charming compared to some modern hotels. Expensive, but definitely a unique experience. If you can, stay in room 4 or 6.

What a wonderful experience, beautiful beautiful hotel - stunning building, the most comfortable beds ever, truly delicious food, staff were brilliant, truly outstanding service from the staff - they all deserve our thanks and we'd like to name them all but those whose names we know get special mentions - Mike (I think he was a porter) such a friendly guy and nothing was too much trouble; Orla on reception (first impressions count and it was a really positive first impression) Craig in the bar was brilliant - attentive, friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and made great cocktails and Kim from the Orangery restaurant was a ray of sunshine (I'm running out of superlatives). The Dungeon dining experience was amazing - delicious, high quality food served by knowledgeable staff (expensive but really worth it) . The Orangery food was also so very good - one of the best sirloin steaks I've ever had and good choices for pescatarians. Breakfast was lovely too - great choices and really well presented and the coffee was amazing. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and we had a couple of really enjoyable walks down the bank of the Dalhousie Burn - so peaceful and quiet. There is some refurbishment work going on but we were aware of this before we went and it didn't detract from the experience at all. I have seen reviews complaining about no lift (in an historic castle? Really? Google tells you it hasn't got one) and the service / food - none of those reviews reflect our experience. There is not a single negative comment to be made. It was perfect. Would I got back? Absolutely, in a heartbeat Thank you to everyone there (including the cleaning staff, our rooms were immaculately presented and so clean).

Top experience for castle lovers with culinairy taste ! Ideal for couples who look for a few days of rest, luxury and fine tabling.

Our daughter and son in law’s wedding was wonderful, the castle a magnificent setting, staff friendly, attentive and efficient. The wedding breakfast was delicious in the amazing setting of the dungeon dining room. Our room spacious, equipped with everything we needed and beautifully decorated. There were some unique elements to the wedding service which were so special, but won’t spoil the surprises for future celebrations. We would certainly recommend the castle and hotel.

Great location and castle, amazing dungeon restaurant, food in the restaurant was great, the service ok. Overall service was shockingly bad, breakfast was a faulty towers experience. The hotel could be a 5 star but the service is definitely 2 star.
