Clarion Hotel Newcastle South

An excellent hotel, great rooms, comfortable bed, spacious with hairdryer and tea and coffee. Small bathroom. Great choice for dinner, cereal and cooked breakfast. Clean everywhere, has gym and pool. Friendly staff, quiet area so no traffic noise.

Comfortable bed and room. Shower nice and powerful. Over priced drinks. We’re in Newcastle not London! Food very dry and overcooked. Limited staff manning the bar. Breakfast good, but not a huge selection. Pool and spa area great for the whole family.

Lovely hotel and staff I'm sure but an awful cancellation policy which doesn't account for medical emergencies. £95 for no room due to a genuine reason. I'm sure there are dishonest people out there but I am definitely not one of them. Will definitely not be giving them my business again.

The new manager for the gym/spa is an absolute godsend! He has, along with his team Michelle& Kelvin, have got the place sparkling again! The poolside is free of razors and plasters, numpties and wee odour! It’s a pleasure to go in knowing it’ll be spotless! Ethan is 100% approachable, professional, no nonsense, hard grafting guy who is an asset to the company! I just wish the usual men would shower before diving in the pool from the sauna & steam! Apart from that, it’s great 👍🏻

Stayed a couple of times while visiting family in the area. First time we had a normal room on the first floor and the second we had a suite. The normal room which your standard room, it was very clean and more than adequate for our stay the second time we decided to upgrade and ended up with the suite which is probably used for the bridal suite when they have a wedding. The room was enormous, there was a seating area, an enormous bed, I had to use a chair to help me get on it, it was so high. The bathroom was also enormous with a stand alone bath and a walk in shower which could have fitted 6 people with a waterfall shower head. This is the first room that it had toothbrushes and razors as well as the usual toiletries for you to use. There was also a fridge, coffeemaker and kettle. This room was on the ground floor, which does lead to an inner courtyard where people can sit and drink. I read this area can get noisy, but it was fine while we were there, there is a restaurant onsite, which we did not use. We had to pay a security deposit for the suite, previous guests had done some damage so now they charge the deposit, when you check out they will inspect the room and refund your card there and then, or you can leave and they will refund after they have done the room check. I can fully understand why they do this as they have spent a lot of money on the room. The hotel is close the a leisure complex with restaurants and a cinema and there is a Asda superstore as well. There is also an onsite pool and spa which we did not visit, but if we use the hotel again I would bring my swimming suit and use the pool. For the price, especially if you have a chain membership it is very good value for money and would recommend staying there and I would stay again when next in the area.

Good amenities and location needs to improve a few things. Restaurant, bar, swimming pool and gym are nice. Seems a nice location for events and they have a packed itinerary. However, rooms that over look the courtyard suffer from the loud guests. In the few and far between hot days the rooms can’t cope and are boiling hot (particularly the first floor). No aircon and limited fans. Therefore reliance on the windows means sound travels from rooms even if the courtyard is closed at 10.30. New staff working were able unfamiliar with processes and tills meaning delays and incorrect things on bills and prices. Causing confusion about payments already made. I am sure a bit of training will sort this out. I am sure we will return but only in winter!

Lovely 2 night stay here. We visited as a family of 5, had 2 adjoining rooms on the 1st floor. The stay was perfect, check in was quick and easy, the beds were the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in at any hotel, wish I could’ve taken it home! The rooms were very clean and housekeeping were very tentative, helpful and very polite. We had breakfast both mornings, lots of choice and everything was tasty. We used the pool also, changing rooms were clean with plenty lockers and the pool was nice and quiet. All round great stay and we will absolutely be back! The hotel itself is very nice, great amenities, friendly staff but when the hotel has functions ie weddings on it can get noisy. Our room was overlooking the courtyard which had children screaming and shouting until 1am. Kids running through the halls on floor 1 and knocking on doors and running away, riding the elevator and closing the elevator doors in peoples faces. Definitely ruined the experience for us but as I state, the hotel itself was nice and a 5 minute walk to Boldon leisure which has some great places to visit.
