The Hummingbird

If I could give more stars I would. Perhaps the best most relaxing vacation I’ve ever had. This was our first visit to Bocas del Toro, and I was not sure what area we should stay in. By the end of our stay, I was convinced we stayed in the absolute best place that we could have. If you want an incredible beach only steps away with almost no one on it, the sound of waves breaking lulling you to sleep, monkeys right outside you door in the trees when you wake up, parrots toucan and sloths everywhere, and amazing food, this is the place. The best wildlife viewing on this whole island is from the pool with one of their great cocktails in you hand. The menu was outstanding and the Argentinian bbq on Sunday was one of the best meals we have ever had, no joke! There are also several other small resorts just a short barefoot walk away that have great food too for some variety but there really is no reason to leave this place at all. Everything was impeccable clean at all times and the staff and owners were so kind and thoughtful in a genuine way. We can’t wait to come back!

We had a fabulous 3 night stay at The Hummingbird. Everything about the place was gorgeous. We stayed in a Bungalow which was absolutely beautiful. The location right on Bluff beach, a short taxi ride away from Bocas town down a bumpy beach road. The restaurant was fantastic. We ate there for lunch once and dinner three times and I can honestly say they were some of the best meals I have eaten. I had the tuna three nights running it was that good. We enjoyed our 3 night relaxed stay. This was our designated chill out time in the middle of our quite active trip and we did exactly that. The location is lovely - set on beautifully planted grounds with pretty little gardens and short paths into the forest to wander on and make spotting monkeys, sloth, toucan, hummingbird and other birds and butterflies easy. We could spot them right from our rooms deck as well as from various paths and the restaurant and pool area.  The breakfasts were delicious (especially the pancakes) and all the tuna and steak dinner dishes stood out as excellent. Though we didn't really rate the juices and cocktails that highly.  The much reviewed owners weren't there when we were, but they did help us a lot in advance with planning our trip and recommendations which we were very grateful for - and their advice was spot on. The staff on site were all friendly and helpful and the guy looking after the gardens does great work.  The room was very comfortable and had really great bedsheets(!) as well as comfortable facilities so we felt very comfortable in the jungle. It was nice to fall asleep to sounds of crashing waves and wake to the morning routine of the birds and monkeys.  We generally just hung around the hotel for our stay watching the wildlife and popped to bombom beach bar a couple of times too.  A great place to relax. 

Lovely place Stayed in the one of the semi-detached bungalows. Very comfortable with an amazing view. Pool was lovely. Loads of Hummingbirds around so it warrants the name! The food in the restaurant was ok but not very memorable but there are 2 alternative options within walking distance - we only tried one which was much better. There's just one option for breakfast which did change every day. As there are no windows you and your neighbours can hear everything. Unfortunately we had a very loud couple next to us who kept on talking loudly every day and also till very late in the night. In the end we had to tell them to be quiet which worked only up to a certain level.

Betsy and gary run an incredible hotel with stunning surroundings and excellent staff. They provided anything we needed. Great food for breakfast and dinner, a beautiful property to see all kinds of flora and animals, Including monkeys. They also were able to arrange transportation for us when our flight changed last minute. Couldnt recommend this place enough. Beautiful and comfortable.
