This is our fourth visit to the wonderful Kristiania in Lech. Nestled just outside the main hubbub of the town, the Kristiania is a warm, cosy and welcoming home from home after a day spent skiing in the mountains. The Kristiania mixes traditional Tyrolean decor and designs with eye catching and stunning contemporary works of art. What makes this hotel stand out though is its staff who are all, without exception, fabulous. You are greeted with warm smiles wherever you go and everybody is keen to make sure you have the very best holiday possible. The rooms are nicely designed, spacious and very comfortable. We stayed in room 19 this time with separate bathroom and WC and gorgeous views over the mountain. We have always particularly loved the bar at the Kristiania; it’s very large, warm and sumptuous full of squishy sofas and armchairs to curl up in. The Boot Camp is great too; big, warm and very well equipped. Because the hotel is situated slightly out of town, the Kristiania provides a complimentary shuttle service and this works very well. So, why the four stars instead of five this time? We were served milk with our afternoon tea in the bar one afternoon from a dirty jug with old coffee swimming around in it. This hadn’t been noticed by the staff but was quickly removed and replaced when we pointed it out. We were also served completely flat champagne in the bar one evening which the barman had also not noticed. We appreciate these are minor points and very ‘first world’ but this is a hotel aiming for the very best service and we felt it slightly misfired this time. We also came back to our room at the end of a whole day’s skiing one day and the room had not been cleaned. We asked the Reception staff for it to be cleaned and sat in the bar for an hour while that happened. Again, not a big problem but we would have preferred to have gone straight to the room to shower and relax. Turn down service was a little hit and miss too and didn’t happen on a couple of evenings. I should point out though that when Housekeeping did come, the room was cleaned to a very high standard and we had absolutely no complaints whatsoever. The beds, pillows, towels, robes and slippers are all extremely comfortable and appreciated after a long day’s skiing. We felt breakfast was a little expensive too at around 45 euros per person although we understand the world is a very expensive place right now so others may have a different opinion. The egg on my husband’s breakfast rosti was overcooked one morning though and the fish in the same dish very oily. He ordered a mushroom omelette on the second morning and the plate was very oily indeed which didn’t look nice when it arrived and the mushrooms were on the side not inside the omelette. I also ordered the bircher muesli on the first morning but was given hot porridge instead. As before, none of these things are major issues but just minor comments and feedback for a hotel of this calibre. We are very fond of the Krist
