Ask for a room that isn't above the laundry! We had two rooms - one directly above it, and another directly above that. Sleeping two floors up, I could still hear the washing machine going. They were washing all night - even at 3am in the morning. It was understandable, I guess, as they provide huge towels and bathrobes... and everything else was indeed very nice - but no one goes to the countryside to hear a washing machine buzzing away in the wee small hours.

Had a very good 2 night stay in this lovely hotel in the village of Blanchfield. Very comfortable hotel - food delicious - staff first class. We will hopefully be back.

From our arrival on bikes into the delightful, tiny village of Blanchland to stepping inside the beautiful Lord Crewe Arms we were enthralled. An excellent experience overall. The dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Friendly, professional service. Our room was small but well equipped and very comfortable. Highly recommended.

Me and my husband love visiting the Lord Crewe Arms in Blanchland when we are heading North to Scotland. Our favorite place to sit is near the large fireplace. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating and the food is truly wonderful.

2 friends and myself stayed here for a 2 night break recently. Sadly the stay did not live up to expectations. On the positive side the location was delightful and the rooms were comfortable and well appointed with some thoughtful touches such as the provision of OS maps and a compass for walking. The provision of routes for suggested short walks was also a nice touch. However whilst some of the staff were pleasant and friendly others were very definitely not. When we arrived we were greeted in a peremptory fashion and told to come back in three hours. There was certainly no evidence of the slice of cake or hot drink on arrival that is advertised. At no point did anybody tell us where the dinning room or the lounge area was or indeed offer to help with luggage. The service in the bar was poor at best whilst the service in the dinning room was shocking. The staff were clearly untrained and unsupervised and each evening we had a wait of over one hour. The food was adequate but nothing special. The checkout process was lengthy and the bill was not at all transparent although the lady on reception at this time was attempting to be helpful. Overall the hotel was overpriced and I felt the staff would benefit from better training and supervision.

Visited for the weekend whilst watching a local event. I have rated this 3, but really it's 3.5. I don't want to give it a full 4 as it was above average. Firstly we arrived and there was someone's birthday party being hosted by the pub. It had a band on in the beer garden with a decent attendance. It was all reasonable. However when having our evening meal it did have an impact on us ordering our drinks. We were told our drinks would be delayed because the bar staff were busy with the party. That's not my issue, if you're hosting a party, make sure you have the staff on. When you're paying £300+ for an evening stay, I don't expect to be told I will be delayed because some party reveller is waiting for their £6 beer. For breakfast we were also told we would have to pay for a latte. I mean, come on, I have paid well over £300 for dinner bed a breakfast and you're asking me to pay for a latter. Isn't that included in the price? The staff were all very pleasant and the food was really nice. But the prices didn't reflect what we got. Some sourdough bread with out evening meal was £8 and a portion of chips £6. I mean, come on. When we got our final bill, it wasn't itemised. That should be a given. How many people just settle their bill without asking? I would like to go back as it's in a lovely area, the staff were nice and the bar is lovely. But I just feel like we should have been told about the party and I just think there is better value at some other places.

Excellent hotel, friendly staff, great menu choice in the restaurant, plenty of parking plus a hearty cooked breakfast. Ideal base for walkers, cyclists etc but we used this hotel as a base for National Trust and English Heritage visits. Our room was in the Angel across the square, clean, tidy nothing extra needed (enjoyed the Fudge though!)
