The hotel is very new, the facilities are very good, the lobby is very good, free parking, you can find places to eat around walking, as well as Chinese food, which is run by a Chinese couple and tastes good.

I lodged at the Altoona Comfort Suites Friday, May 31, 2004. On Saturday, June 1, 2024 my wife and our 17 year old son joined me. We reserved an additional room for Ben, and so the three of us lodged in 2 rooms, #309 and #311, at the Altoona Comfort Suites Saturday, June 1, 2024. At approximately 8:15 pm Saturday evening a power outage occurred, disabling the lights and air conditioning. My wife, our son, and I decided to walk the stairway down to the lobby. No emergency lights in the stairwell! Pitch-black on the 2nd and 3rd floor stairs. We stepped very carefully and found the railing, following it to the lobby. The 1st floor lobby egress door was lit with a very small light, but this did not light the area beyond the immediate 1st floor door opening. What if the building required evacuation during a power outage, and guests lodged on the upper floors were forced to navigate the steps in the total blackness, especially guests with mobility issues, or someone with small children or an infant in arms? I highly recommend that Altoona Comfort Suites immediately install emergency lighting on the 2nd and 3rd landings in both stairwells, and that the emergency lights be tested monthly. When we entered the lobby, I expected the Manager on Duty to be studying the building’s Continuity of Operations (COOP) binder, open to the tab ‘Power Outage’. She was not. Frankly, I doubt if the Altoona Comfort Suites has developed a COOP. I highly recommend that the Altoona Comfort Suites develop a COOP, memorialize in writing the instructions in a binder readily available to all personnel, and that the binder be updated at a minimum quarterly or ad hoc as necessary. I also recommend that all personnel be thoroughly trained in emergency guest safety and property security. Clearly from the events my family and I experienced last Saturday evening, guest security and safety are the lowest priority. I asked the Manager on Duty if she had contacted the power company regarding the outage. She stated she did not know who to contact or how to contact them. My wife guided the Manager on Duty step by step on the Manager on Duty’s cellphone how to search and locate the power company providing electrical service. The Manager on Duty expressed with great concern that her manager was not answering her phone, and that the Manager on Duty was growing exceeding anxious, and I could see she was experiencing ‘management paralysis’. I asked her if she had a strong flashlight with which she could walk both stairwells and check for any problems, and that I was quite willing to assist her. I asked her if she had rapped on the hall door of the elevator on each floor, determining if a guest was trapped in the elevator car. At that point the Manager on Duty ran outside and stood in the parking lot, lit a cigarette, and refused to re-enter the building. My wife, our son, and I carefully climbed the pitch-black stairwell to the 3rd floor and our rooms. The rooms had warmed to the p

BUYER BEWARE - HOTEL OWNERS ARE THIEVES!!! I made a reservation for two nights with a pre-paid award member rate which included Free Cancellation up through the day before my stay. I phoned the hotel to modify my reservation from two nights to one night two weeks before my stay, and I was told that the hotel would not accommodate my request. I could however stay for one night, but I would be charged for two nights… HUH? Since I did not wish to pay for an extra night I would not be using, I requested to cancel my reservation as I had booked with a clear free cancellation policy which I had in writing. I was then informed that hotel refused to cancel my reservation and they would not refund my payment. When I expressed frustration and disbelief with the hotel’s actions, I was told ‘I could call corporate’. So, I did call corporate and then spent three hours on the phone with various levels of Choice Hotels' customer service. Although every person I spoke to at Choice customer service agreed that the hotel should/must refund my payment, the local hotel management refused to follow the written cancellation policy under my reservation and refund my payment. I was also dumbfounded to learn that Choice customer service appears to be powerless to enforce Choice Corporate Policy even when the local hotel property is in the wrong! So, it was a total waste of a very frustrating three hours to right the hotel’s wrong and secure a refund. Needless to say that I will never be staying in this hotel due to their unscrupulous, unprofessional actions, and I think that you should consider whether you wish to stay in a hotel that does not honor written reservation policies and has total disregard for their customers. Buyer Beware, as this establishment is managed by unethical, dishonorable people who may not honor any reservation or commitment made to you as well. Be very careful before giving them and deposit or advance down payment. There are many other hotels in the area that are cleaner and of higher quality, and I would advise that you 'Hard Pass' on staying at this Quality Inn in Altoona, PA. In a quick read of other comments re: this hotel, I see that others have suffered the same, or similar, treatment/problems as I did. This suggests that the issue described above is not a one-off situation, but rather a more routine practice by this hotel and even more concerning! The hotel owners are Vishalkumar Patel and Rajendrakumar Patel and they should not be trusted! Happy travels,

What a pleasant suprise to find a pristine clean hotel in this era of short staffing and limited services. There was not a need that went unmet during our stay. Every aspect of the hotel, inside and out, was well maintained and in good condition. Such a breath of fresh air- not something you see these days.

Hotel was clean except the bathroom, the vent had a ton of dust on the vent above the shower, the toilet was dirty. There is a design flaw with the shower allowing water to run down glass door all over the floor, because of that there was a loose tile on wall next to shower. The handle to the shower door was so loose it felt like it was going to break off. The food was pretty good except the sausage links were burnt. The pool was shut down do to maintenance. The rest of the stay was nice, rest of hotel was clean.

Facilities: Very good, gym, swimming pool, laundry room Environment: The hotel is very new but there is no smell. The opposite is tens of meters away from the cinema. There are Sam and Wal-Mart and Japanese barber shops. Drive for 3 minutes and walk to calculate by yourself. Hygienic: The room was well organized when I checked in. It was very clean. The bathroom was very large compared to the three-star hotel in the United States and the hot water was very big. Friends who often go abroad should know that the water output from foreign hotels is really too urgent. Service: The front desk is very warm, but the room cleaning is not scheduled and will not be actively cleaned. This is not very convenient for guests with poor English.
