Freindly staff but the hotel was a bit tired and unloved. It is in a beautiful location but there are no facilitys in the area, Ffestiniog was dead.

Y Pengwern – where the only thing consistent is the inconsistency. If you're looking for a thrilling game of “Will the shower be ice-cold or melt my skin off?” – look no further! Truly, nothing gets the blood pumping in the morning like wondering if you’ll emerge from your shower with hypothermia or third-degree burns. The ambiance? Imagine a former "budget" hotel that decided to remove the charm of affordability but keep the corners that were cut. Genius. It's like they thought, "Why not charge more and fix nothing?" Inspirational, really. Comfort level? Well, if you find joy in sleeping in what feels like a converted broom cupboard with the atmosphere of a dentist’s waiting room in 1984, you’ll feel right at home. To sum it up: Would I stay here again? Only if all other hotels, hostels, and park benches were full. Probably used to be a charming “budget-type” escape. Now it’s just a budget experience with premium prices. A bold choice – one that I will not be making again.

Stayed in a double bed room with en suite, excellent service and room was clean and tidy, would definitely go again, was perfect for staying a night before the climb before Snowdon, good area that is quiet but close to food and the sea. Even parking available

I do understand why Y Pengwern chooses to not serve food on Mon and Tues ( or Sun eve) as it can be very quiet but on the Weds we geared up to eat there only to be told it was too quiet so they weren't bothering to open the kitchen. None of the local takeaways deliver - none of them - so as we'd had drinks already when we were told this we couldn't drive to somewhere else and went without our meal ! Sorry - I really wanted to like this place but you can't advertise a facility then just not bother to provide it , esp in a tourist location.

Comfortable rooms (warm even on a very cold night), good food, excellent beer and a very friendly welcome; will certainly be back. The bar is very popular with local people too - even mid week so it's always quite lively with good live music the night I stayed

A warm welcome and very friendly staff. A pub and hotel run by the community who all work really hard. Very nice food , great beer and and all very good value for money. Nice breakfast too. Would definitely recommend and would certainly go again.

Love this place ,staff are excellent, we mingle in with some locals have a laugh and learn some Welsh. Food is amazing . We came with our labrador he was welcomed and loved by a quite a few people. We've stayed here many times will be back before Christmas if any availability. Thank you all ,we appreciate your efforts and kindness. We are always up for contributing towards local community run businesses. Big thanks to zara(if spelt correctly lol) for learning me some basic language in the smoking hut 🤣. We will hopefully meet again.

A great pub, lovely food in the evening wih a choice of beers & ales at the bar & a wood burner, with a continental breakfast, big comfy room with en-suite shower room (No. 4). Couldn't get a signal with the TV in the room but not an issue, & maybe an egg-boiling facility with breakfast could be a bonus? Great walks nearby especially to local waterfalls, which were impressive due to recent rainfall! All in all, a great stay!

This review is for lunch and the dinner we had. We didn't stay in the hotel. Very friendly staff and lovely soup at lunch after a hike locally, our dog was also welcome. We came back for dinner later and enjoyed that too.
