Park Head Hotel

Absolutely spotlessly clean. Room was wonderfully spacious and thoughtfully laid out. Perfect for short stays, price was excellent considering others in the area. Would highly recommend.

Comfortable hotel with delicious food

Having visited the restaurant of this hotel several times before, today’s visit for Sunday lunch which was not our first Sunday lunch, was very disappointing. Pricing was average, no concern really. The food was tasty and the front of house staff were pleasant and friendly. However, it took 20 minutes after placing our order of three drinks for them to be served with only 10 people in the restaurant at that point. The order was taken just after 12 noon so it was within licensing laws. My husband and I chose roast pork with crackling and stuffing. There was no crackling with the meat and the middle of the two small slices was fatty for both of us, so we left the fat. Afterwards I saw a person near me served the same meal and they had two slices of very lean pork with a ***** of crackling across the top. Were we given the end of the joint instead of it being discarded? The portion of vegetables offered for two people was quite small too. Our daughter ordered roast root vegetable gnocchi. The portion size was extremely small, more like a small child’s portion, totally inadequate for a grown adult with the price point of a main. She counted four pieces of gnocchi in the dish. The rest was vegetables. It was quite dry with no sauce. There was nothing extra to accompany this meal. This resulted in us sharing our food with her to ensure she had a half decent meal. As we weren’t as full after this meal as we have been in the past, we ordered a dessert each. Was this the reason the portion size has been reduced? I ordered rhubarb and ginger granola eton mess. It contained far too much cream, a fine sprinkling of granola with a couple of small meringue pieces on the top and a small amount of rhubarb purée. Very disappointing. Park Head Hotel has always been our go to restaurant to celebrate birthdays. Not any more. What a shame. The disabled bay closest to the building couldn’t be used because cars (not displaying a blue disabled badge)were parked (possibly staff) on the yellow hatched areas meant to be kept clear. A disabled driver would not be able to use that spot.

Lovely twin room, clean and comfortable, nice bathroom with walk in shower. Friendly staff, free car parking, nice restaurant and the meals were great. The cooked breakfast was very nice. A short drive back into Bishop Auckland. We did have an issue with our bill at the end but the friendly and helpful receptionist got it sorted for us so all good.

I was kindly offered a free upgrade and the Manager was also able to allow me check into my (room 22) early (very welcome after a 7 hour drive through the night from the Isle of Wight). Apologies, as didn’t take his name but he was a lovely Irish guy and very friendly warm welcome - thank you. While waiting for my room to be finished I was offered a cup of tea and a lady called Leanne stopped to chat and another friendly welcome. She asked if I needed anything else for my stay/room to just ask she and the cleaners ensured I had a good supply of teabags, milk and good quality biscuits you are all a credit to the Park Head and made me feel at home. Nobody was intrusive and I was allowed peace and privacy. I won’t stay anywhere else now when visiting family. Good Value, clean very good hotel

Didn't like the motel style rooms, noisy metal steps serving the rooms above us.blinds only for windows that failed to keep the bright light of Carpark out. I did request a quiet room A party of guests had their own drinks and sat outside our room at night 10pm on the bistro sets , making a lot of noise. Had to make a complaint to reception to move them, this should have been dealt with by staff! Rooms clean apart from dirty extraction fan in bathroom.
