It’s totally overrated. Rooms are old and old style. It’s absolutely overpriced for what it is. Not even breakfast is included. The shower gel and shampoo is still in tiny, cheap bottles instead of big environmentally-friendly bottles with pumps, which is standard now in environmentally conscious high end hotels. This hotel has stopped evolving decades ago. Also single use cups only for tea / coffee at the coffee station in the lobby.

The service was great, the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. I love the hotel! The only suggestion I have for the hotel is to add recycling bins in the rooms or perhaps on each floor in the main corridor. This would allow customers the option to help sort our garbage and trash (plastic, paper, cardboard), especially since the rooms do provide bottled water.

The Townsend never disappoints, Beautifully designed, quiet (even when full), attentive and responsive staff - we love this hotel. We've stayed in king rooms & suites and they are SO comfortable and well designed - a true pleasure to return to our room every night. The location is amazing - walkable to everything in Birmingham - the best Detroit suburb. Beds are wonderful. We'll be back!

I usually stay at the Daxton, but the company booked me at the Townsend. Yes, it’s older and could use a facelift but if they ever updated the décor, Daxton better watch out. Townsend wins on service (they’ve clearly been doing this forever), with better sheets, better towels, and way better staff. The rooms are also bigger more “stretch out” than “shoebox chic.” Daxton’s still prettier, but Townsend’s smoother. And honestly? Sometimes smooth beats cool.

This hotel was more like a 5 star experience. From the moment you walked in, you knew. They cared. Excellent care customer service. The rooms were spacious and clean. I would highly recommend to anyone. Beautiful areal as well!0

The Townsend Hotel felt like being home when our home had a pipe break. The rooms are comfortable, the team at the Townsend is outstanding. People like Kevin at the front door goes above and beyond. RJ at the valet is wonderful.
