Originally a mansion for a mining baron, the building fell into disrepair until an architect purchased and restored it. The mansion is absolutely beautiful and full of history and antiques. I shared the “Enchanting Turret” room with my older sister. The beds were far enough away that we were afforded ample privacy. The owner, Sheila, lives on the grounds and was a gracious host, offering both hospitality and valued advice about the area. On top of everything, it’s in a great area close to both restaurants and the airport. I give this establishment my highest recommendation.

My husband and I spent one night at the Hassinger Daniels Mansion B&B because of a procedure at UAB. Sheila, the owner was very accommodating. The B&B is beautifully restored. There are two carousels that I saw and a couple of what looked like wood carved animals peering out of a window. When asked the story behind the carousels, Sheila told us that her husband made them. It is such a beautiful way to honor her husband by having them displayed. They are amazing. It's a unique property. I can't comment on the breakfast because we had an early departure, but she provided breakfast to go packages for us.

The room was filled with smelly, weary old furniture. The carpet was loose - all needed replacement. The room looked clean initially, but was dirty when examined more closely. We were disgusted with the expectation that we participate in a conversation during breakfast regarding odd foods eaten by other cultures, facilitated by the sniggering hostess.

Fun Victorian place stuffed with lots of stuff from the era. Full house when I was there. Wonderful breakfast with everyone. Sheila is a great host and owner. Many good restaurants within walking distance.

The owner is horrible maybe even mentally unhealthy!!! We were lied to about our reservations multiple times. We booked on-line and spoke on the phone several times to confirm our room. When arriving, the room was not a double room. The owner was horrible and extremely rude. We really felt that she is a bit senile. We tried to work with her and since we couldnt rent an extra room asked to visit with those who could be accommodated. She refused to let us visit in the room and gave us a curfew to leave. She was horrible!!! I cannot express how bad this was. We ended up leaving and not using the room at all.

My main reason for coming to Birmingham was to visit the civil rights sites but staying a couple of nights in a late 19th century mansion was a nice bonus in the middle of a long road trip. The house is certainly beautiful and the location is quite nice. There are a couple of upscale restaurants in the neighborhood (Five Points), a real good bbq place and a bunch of standard fast food places. I found there was plenty of parking behind the building (the parking lot belongs to the mansion) and it was a convenient, quick drive to the civil rights sites. The breakfast both mornings was ample and delicious. I found it to be a relaxing two days.

This lodging is near the famous Five Points area of downtown B'ham. There are several restaurants in the area within easy walking distance. Sheila is a gracious host. Breakfast was wonderful. We booked the Seraphim room. It's one of the smaller rooms in the mansion but we were comfortable. The AC worked well and the Wifi was more than adequate. The room was near to the street but we slept well. The mansion has a large front porch from which one can see Vulcan in the distance. The decor is heavily oriented to Victorian. That's true of the rooms and the common areas. I say this just by way of description...we saw it as neither a feature nor a fault. It's just something to be aware of depending on your own tastes. I'd recommend the Mansion for couples or singles without children.

We had a very nice stay at the mansion. The check in was easy because Shelia answered her phone quickly and gave us the access code, then our room key was waiting for us on a door side table. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was hot and tasty. The location is also quite good with many restaurants nearby. and it's maybe 3/4 mile walk to the hospital campus. We did not experience the noise issues that others did, but there were a lot of students nearby so I could see that could be a potential issue. The only odd thing was that we hung the Do Not Disturb sign on the door handle and the room was cleaned anyway, and several items were discarded that should have been left alone, so if you have receipts or things that might look like trash lying around that you don't want discarded, better put them in your bags. Otherwise we were very happy with our stay and would stay there again.

Everything was wonderful! The house has so much character and the attention and care given to the history and antiques is amazing. Sheila was so welcoming and kind. Everything was clean and easy. My only regret is that we only got to stay for one night! I cannot recommend this B&B enough. I may never stay in a hotel again after this!
