Rooms outdated. Carpet in bathroom - very unhygienic. Taps hanging off sink. Shower water not flowing. Breakfast was cheap bread to toast, packet jam and butter. Stale cereal. Some funny coloured ham and packet cheese. No staff in breakfast room - you have to go to office behind reception and tell them to give tea. Whole interior needs massive overhaul. Key cards never worked after one use. Staff however were very nice people. Friendly and helpful. Staff was 1 poor old lady - working office, being porter, receptionist, cook, and cleaner. Young lads other times in office - friendly and helpful.

This hotel is a disgrace. I am a frequent traveller- but have learnt lots about this property from my stay. The current owners bought it a year ago, closed down the bar ( as all hotels do), have a weak to non existent breakfast, have old outdated rooms and have spent zero in refurbishment. A few google searches reveal that the owners own nursing ( old people’s) homes which they let out to Bradford Council. This is a beautiful old building with 19 bedrooms. It could be great hotel. The pricing, lack of care, lack of food available, lack of care etc could lead one to the conclusion that it is being purposefully run into the ground. Mild speculation only, but I could see the owners then applying to Bradford council for a change of use for this listed building from a hotel into another business- perhaps a nursing home say. Whilst they go about playing their games, it’s not a great place to stay and travellers do g so are saying their money. The outcome is inevitable but there is no reason to be one of the victims that throws their money away staying on the way to its certain demise and use change application.

After looking at reviews we decided this hotel would be perfect for our three-night stay near Bradford. After telephoning to book and pay for our stay we were then advised that there were no bar facilities - slightly disappointing. When we arrived we had difficulty finding a member of staff so that we could book in - eventually we found someone in the kitchen. The hotel is generally tired and needs some tlc to bring it back to life. We had hoped to have dinner in the hotel but there were no restaurant facilities - very disappointing after reading the glowing reports on the website. It was not possible either to have a hot breakfast and the choice/variety of the continental breakfast was extremely poor - the pastries looked extremely stale. On returning to the hotel after being out for the day we were flabbergasted to see that the bed had not been made - this has never happened before. New toiletries had been left but on the second day we had to ask for more. Having said this we found the staff (with one exception) to be extremely friendly and helpful. The guy on reception on our last morning did not even take his feet off the desk when he said good morning and we were left to make our own tea and coffee. This could be a great venue and is in a beautiful location but if some simple easy changes are not made soon then it will not endure. The website needs to be a true reflection of the hotel's facilities.

Think twice
As a review I read after booking this said, the hotel is a case of faded glory. It’s a beautiful building, but needs a lot of refurbishment and upgrading. Our room was cold and even though cleaned well, it didn’t feel clean due to the faded carpet, chipping paint, etc. The parking lot is a disaster waiting to happen. First off, no lights up there for safety/security. Second, the morning we left, it was after a storm that left heavy ice on everything. I nearly fell down walking up the hill to the lot and over to my car. Nothing had been done to melt the ice or provide any traction to the asphalt. Not at all safe! All the staff were wonderful, but they can’t make up for the lack of maintenance, which falls to the owners. Also, the breakfast was a continental one, not an English breakfast as stated in the listing. So overall, we felt a little misled, especially since we had no option but to book non-refundable.

Bring your own alcohol and ask for a blanket.
Beautiful listed building and a real treat to be able to stay there. However it was cold and we had to ask for blankets on the bed as the heating was switched off at night.
There's no cooked breakfast despite it saying there was at the weekend. After we'd booked we received an email to tell us this and also there was no alcohol licence so the bar only sells soft drinks. However you can take your alcohol and drink it in the bar or restaurant, so that saves a lot of money.

I had to cancel my booking which I did through ******* .
Then I kept getting phone calls and texts from a landline and a mobile number while I was out with my partner and friends .
Found it very irritating especially as at the time I didn’t know who it was and all I got in the text messages was ring me back .
Over 12 missed calls and texts
