Hampton Inn Big Rapids

This was our first time staying at this hotel and we chose it because it was close to the university. The hotel rooms were what I would expect from a Hampton Inn, the place was clean and the staff was pleasant, but a couple of things really troubled me. First, the breakfast was terrible, with just some rubbery french toast, something labeled as an omelet and sausage. The juice dispenser was out of order, and there were no efforts for alternate accommodations like juice boxes or the like. The milk they had was in gallon jugs, just left for everybody to handle. Probably the worst breakfast i've seen in a Hampton Inn, obviously not a lot of effort went into it. The second issue that really bothered me was when we checked in approximately seventy five minutes before the official check in time, we were told there'd be a fifty dollar charge per room. The hotel was not busy, and room for ready to me. It's just a simple money grab. The manager's on duty explanation was it was policy. My policy is to never stay at a another Suburban Inns property in Michigan ever again and I would urge other people to follow suit

Typical Hampton Inn. There was construction going on but it wasn't an issue. Front desk staff were very nice which I appreciate. I had a nice chat with the ladies at the front and they were pleasant and lovely. I accidentally spilled coffee in the hallway outside my room and called down and the lady at the front was very kind. I told my husband do not use a towel to soak it up and the lady at the front confirmed that as we would likely incur a charge for staining the towel. The young woman who came to clean it did so quickly and it was like it never happened which was good because I felt really bad about it. I even apologized to her when I saw her cleaning it and she was so nice about it. Room was clean and comfortable but definitely could use an update. Weird stains on the ceiling and peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. Breakfast was standard Hampton Inn with hot and cold options and of course waffles, which I always enjoy. I would love more plugs by the bed but it wasn't awful or anything. I would also love firmer pillows, but again, not a huge problem. Barn style sliding door on the bathroom was weird. Location is very good, close to the freeway, restaurants, and stores, Meijer is right next door. Good Wifi which is always appreciated. AC was very strong (it was hot out so that was great). Would stay again when in the area.

Would stay here again The hotel is in great shape. The bedroom was great and the beds/pillows were super comfortable. The only drawback is the bathroom faucet is miserably designed and flows down very low into the center of the sink (terrible design for anyone wanting to brush their teeth while staying. Lol). Breakfast was good, tons of options and was available to 10am, which is nice compared to some other hotels. Checkout also was at noon, rather than 11 which I also appreciated.
