Sunglow Motel

Stay here! I haven't stayed at a motel in ages, but the Sunglow was my best option on the night before visiting Capital Reef and it was an excellent choice. The rooms were far nicer than other hotels we stayed in during our trip to the five parks. The Sunglow's rooms have recently been done and reflect a modernity that the exterior does not. Great furniture, HVAC, and an excellent bathroom. Also, get some of that pie!

When I pulled in the parking lot I had my reservations as the parking lot was all broken asphalt and holes. Didn't have any other options so I checked in to get a nights sleep and visit Capitol Reef the next day. Opened my room door and boy was I surprised. The room was recently remodeled. Bed was big and comfortable with nice hardwood floors and nicely updated. The people were very accommodating. Definately would recommend.

Looking for a place to stay that got good reviews near Capital Reef, I chose the Sunglow Hotel from the very few available options before leaving for this trip. This is actually an old motor court type of place; a one story “U” shaped layout with parking outside your door. The rooms are clean but very basic. Our room gave the appearance of having been very recently refurbished. Everything was clean and new and possibly not yet completely furnished. Our king room didn’t have any type of closet or clothes hanger, no iron or board, no microwave, no desk lamp, etc. The small bathroom has a nice tub shower with a small wall mounted lavatory and no counter space and is nicely tiled. Room lighting consists of a rather harsh ceiling light and two bedside lamps on small dressers. The bathroom has only the ceiling light / fan. There is a pod type coffee maker. On the plus side, the shower head is high so I didn’t have to stoop. The hotel has an attached restaurant that is currently closed due to staff shortages. The Owner / manager, Kevin has a restaurant cooler in the office where he sells “World Famous Pickle Pies” as well as other pies. The bed is very comfortable, as are the pillows and I slept better here than anywhere else so far on this trip. On this and recent trips, we have stayed at other four and even five star hotels and this is among the most expensive yet is the most basic hotel we have stayed in. This is the result of very little competition in a popular and rather desolate region near a great national park, Capital Reef.

The room we had was clean and comfortable (The best bed we had all vacation) Everything was recently up graded, so no old flooring or furniture. The adjacent restaurant served a wide selection of American and Mediterranean dishes. (The Kababs were fantastic!!!) Kevin and Olena were nice and attentive to our slightest wishes. Great hosts. We definitely recommend this place to any and all weary travelers!

We, (my wife, a friend and myself), could not find an open spot for tent camping so looked for a reasonably priced motel room and did we luck out!! Our room had recently been renovated just like new. It was exceptionally clean, quiet, and comfortable, a wonderful break after weeks of camping. The bed was superb and the new climate control was excellent, easily and quickly got to the perfect temp. We arrived later in the evening very tired and very much appreciated that the owners were extremely welcoming, responsive and friendly. Thank you Sunglow.

We felt fortunate to get a room here when we had problems with our reservation in Torrey. The Noor in Torrey directed us here and told us this was the only available room in the area. The price was nearly $100 more than what we had planned for, but the room was quite large. We checked in as the desk in the restaurant was shutting down for the night. The room was a one -bedroom suite, with a room for each of two king beds. The room had one small television with one small upholstered chair in which to watch the tv. The distance from the tv to the bed in that room was rather a long distance. This suite is large enough for four people, but only one of them could comfortably watch tv at a time. There was no desk. There was no waste basket. None. Where do we put our trash? We left our it on the floor. The light switch in the separate bedroom kind of worked. Would this result in an electrical fire in the middle of the night? Fortunately, it did not. Was there breakfast included? Nope. We also found hair on the sheets on one bed. The bathtub was dirty and the floor had dust bunnies. Did someone spend a night here and then make the bed? Who knows.
