Overall a comfortable stay at the Manor House Hotel for three nights. The location is of course absolutely perfect and the views at mealtimes unparalleled. The food was also excellent - especially breakfast - and vegan diets are well catered-for. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful. We were especially impressed by the young girl who seemed to be the only member of staff working during the busy evening meal period on Tuesday night - she did an amazing job at holding the fort alone. The room was comfy, if in need of a little TLC. Unfortunately, we arrived to find that some litter had been left in the dressing table drawer (presumably from a previous occupant) - this included a half-drunk alcoholic beverage. While not very pleasant to encounter when you’ve just arrived and have started unpacking, we do understand that hotels have a busy turnaround period between guests and this was obviously something that had just been missed. What was unacceptable was what followed. We politely mentioned it to a member of staff (young man with a beard) who made no apology but assured us it would be cleaned away. We went out for a walk and came back over an hour and a half later to find nothing had been done. I popped down and encountered the same staff member again, who was this time very abrupt and dismissive in his manner (as if a simple, friendly request from a paying guest was an inconvenience) and said that someone else was coming up. We waited but still no one came, so in the end took it down ourselves. It shouldn’t be up to guests to clean up after the previous room occupant. If this had been dealt with straightaway and an apology offered, we would have given a higher review rating, but the tone of this staff member made us feel unwelcome on our first night - so much so that we chose to eat elsewhere that evening despite having a table booking. Thankfully everyone else was lovely and the rest of our stay was very pleasant.
