I booked a high floor room, as advertised in the booking section but when I checked in they gave me a room on the first floor! Only after I complained and showed them my booking, they put me on the third floor. When I arrived the security guard showed me the wrong entrance. The hotel itself is not bad though.

Comfortable
After a few initial hiccups with admin and maintenance - we enjoyed the Coastlands experience that we had become accustomed to. The GM and fontline manager went out of their way to ensure that the remainder of our stay was comfortable.

Convenient location and good service from staff. Sadly though the staff are let down by management's lack of attention to detail and their apparent reluctance to spend time, money and effort on critical maintenance eg The rooms telephones do not work at all - to call for room service, I had to dial the hotel landline and ask the switchboard to direct my call to room service! Not at all convenient and despite bring this to the attention of management after my stay in December 2024, the issue peristed in March 2025. A quick fix is recommended.

If its not staff taking over 45 min to pick up the reception phone it is the manager having meetings with the cleaning staff so early in the morning just outside the hotels room. This happened over 2 consecutive days when the staff where shouted at and would not even stop when the guests are around.

I’d booked a specific room (upper floor, balcony etc). I’d stayed in this hotel before and know its layout. On check-in, reception attempted to palm me off with an inferior room (without offering me a price reduction). When I insisted on the class of room I’d booked, was told it would be ready in 15 mins. It wasn’t! Reception staff didn’t seem able to communicate with the cleaning staff. After an hour of waiting, I finally accepted a room slightly worse than I’d booked because I just couldn’t wait any longer. Room was fine.
The buffet breakfast also had some issues. First by SA standards it’s quite expensive at R230pp. For this I expect a good standard buffet. It was so-so, but in particular the coffee was awful. Essentially left sitting for a very long time in a flask, it was undrinkable. Freshly brewed coffee should be standard these days.
