Alpenresidenz Buchenhöhe

We stayed at Alpenresidenz Buchenhöhe recently and unfortunately found the experience underwhelming. While the hotel is set in a stunning location just a 5-minute drive from the Eagle’s Nest, the quality of the accommodation and service left much to be desired. The room itself was just okay. The bed had clearly seen better days, and as many others have noted, the pillows were incredibly uncomfortable. The curtains in our room were also practically useless – they let in so much light that they may as well not have been there at all (see photo). What really impacted our experience, however, was the service. The woman at reception with the short black bob was incredibly rude and dismissive. Every question we asked seemed like a burden to her, and it left us feeling unwelcome from the moment we arrived. Another downside is that the hotel has no restaurant or even basic amenities available after 8pm. Reception closes, and you’re unable to buy food, drinks, or even snacks. For a hotel of this size and in such a remote location, that’s extremely disappointing. On a positive note, we had a great meal nearby at SkyTop, a restaurant at a local golf club – highly recommended if you’re looking for somewhere with good food and service. Overall, while the location is beautiful, Alpenresidenz Buchenhöhe needs serious improvement in both hospitality and facilities to be worth recommending.

We stayed in this hotel to explore Berchtesgaden and the Bavarian Alps. The hotel is very close to the Eagle's Nest and the Panoramic Road. The hotel is located near the top of the mountains but is only 10 minutes from Koenigsee and the boat to St Batholomew. Our room had a nice balcony and a separate bedroom along with a full kitchen. The hotel is 15 minutes from the town of Berchtesgaden but seems longer because of the winding mountain road.

Limited access options Booked with this property and the room was located in a separate building behind the one shown in the pictures. This room looked to be someone's investment apartment that the property rents out on their behalf as it has a main entrance where you can be buzzed in after ringing one of the flats. There were three floors worth of stairs to get to the building and then eventually the apartment/room. There is not enough parking, so they suggest to just find some place down the street wherever you can fit.
