My boyfriend booked us a very last minute night away because I have not been able to sleep and it was the best decision we could’ve made - brown rigg’s xl double bed is cosy and comfortable, and staying in the middle of a dark park is bliss; with no light pollution and only noise being from nature I had an incredibly restful night. The rooms themselves have very clearly been thoughtfully curated with solid furniture, plenty of outlets, and little luxuries like ringtons tea and Bayliss and Harding soap. The history of the school buildings is included in a little booklet on the wall which I really appreciated reading through (we stayed in the infirmary) it also included an introduction to the family (human and fury) that run brown rigg which added to a homely feel. We didn’t explore very much of the communal spaces - though you can make a brew in your room which is all I’m fussed about - but I think I would like to see what the games room has to offer upon return as well as meet the horses. I can’t wait to come back for a longer stay, perhaps during the acoustic festival in September, and take part more in the offerings at brown rigg and explore the local towns/ countryside. In the meantime for the location, price, and offering I could not recommend a stay here enough.

The first thing we noticed was how clean our room was. The accommodation is almost in the middle of nowhere so very quiet. The guest rooms share a fully stocked kitchen. We were greeted by a young man who was very enthusiastic about the site. Just down the road we used the co-op shop and the Chinese Takeaway.

great location especially if you’re a rambler. quiet. room was cheap , spotless. the owners did their best to be nice. food wasn’t really terribly good, school dinners level but adequate if you can’t be bothered to go out. location reminded me of a ww2 pow camp and indeed it was once used as such in a tv comedy show

Beautiful stay at the Brown Rigg Lodges ❤️ Arrived at the lodge and was greeted by 2 lovely hosts who showed us to our room and was very helpful and told us some very interesting facts about the lodges (an all girls school built before the ww2 I do believe ). The room was very clean and beautiful inside and the small window behind the bed overlooked the forest behind which was beautiful. Overall very quiet, the only bit of noise is people walking to and from their rooms as they are so close together but we was so tired we eventually fell asleep in the beautiful and very comfy bed. There was a shared kitchen but we shared the oven with another couple of guests and took the food back to our rooms. There was a table and chairs and plenty of cutlery too. This was a get away for me and my boyfriend and we are already planning a trip back with our kids as there will be lots of things to do with the kids and a spacious court yard where they could play safely Thankyou for a pleasant stay Chloe & Kieran
