7 adults doing The Northumberland Coastal Path stay here for 1 night along the way. Made very welcome on arrival. Quenched our thirst in the bar that has a good selection of beers etc. Very clean , comfortable and spacious bedrooms . A shower over the bath, the bath being welcome after a long hot days walking . Dinner was very good , it was nice to have salads offered after a lot of pub grub in previous places . The owners and staff were exceptionally accommodating, courtesy and helpful. Thank you The owner only took over this lovely old coaching house in October 2024 . As other reviewers have said some modernisation is required but given time I’m sure they will bring this place up to date . I’d rather have somewhere clean and comfortable but slightly dated than a dirty, unfriendly chain hotel. Keep on doing what you are doing and it will succeed!!

Difficult to review as it is a nice hotel but being such an old building does have drawbacks! Our room was a nice size overlooking the market place. The bathroom was outdated and needed modernisation - the shower has variable heat (difficult to adjust) and the shower control appeared to be upside down. Everything creaks when you move so there is some noise from other rooms (& the separating walls seem quite thin too). The curtains don't really cut out the light & the shutters were incomplete so 4-5am the room will be flooded. It's a lovely onld building, the publc rooms & bar are all nice & the staff friendly & welcoming.

You might find more luxurious and flash hotels around the North Northumberland area, but I’d doubt you’d find one that is more friendly, welcoming and customer focussed. Harvey and his team make every effort to make you feel at home. This hotel is a 19th century coaching inn and has bags of space and character. If you’re expecting a mass market Travelodge/Premier Inn stay, this might not be for you. If you expect a quirky, traditional hotel, with a lovely beer garden, kids’ play area, in a village that hasn’t become over run by designer coffee outlets, amusement arcades, gift shops or wine bars. There’s a good (and reasonably priced) selection of local ales. Two other very good local pubs, and is also very well priced. Our accommodation was nearly half the cost of those quoted by other hotels in a 10 mile radius. Can’t wait for the next time I stay.

The bathroom plumbing left something to be desired. The room generally was in need of a revamp, but the bed was comfortable and clean. Food menu was limited (unless you like burgers), but I enjoyed my fish and chips

We were walking through and stopped for a coffee. What a charming hotel, the building has many original features. We were made very welcome, the coffee was delicious and the staff were so friendly and kind. Would definitely like to stay here when next in the area.

We had a lovely stay at the blue bell hotel for my birthday. There was a nice atmosphere and very welcoming. The breakfast was very good. The room and the hotel was furnished nicely with pictures showing the history of the area and the garden is lovely. We look forward to visiting again in the future as the hotel is also well placed for exploring northumberland. Best wishes, Julia and Daniel visiting from sheffield

The Blue Bell Hotel is an impressive building in the middle of the village. It has a friendly and welcoming team and some spacious accomodation. All but one of our rooms provided comfy beds with quality bedding. The exception was a modern double that felt too low for our use. Part of it's charm is beautiful original windows and generous bathrooms, but these also present challenges with updating needed in places. There's a bar which looks inviting, we were drawn to the Black Swan after dinner...a proper independant local with a warm welcome and live music on Saturday night. Dinner at the Blue Bell was passable but choices like using tinned peas instead of frozen seemed puzzling...an easy fix...and a strange contrast to an excellent piece of battered fish....breakfast was similar, half lovely, especially the continental offering, half of our cooked breakfast was inedible, lovely staff would have corrected this but we didn't have time to wait...l'd definitely come again and liked the independant charm of the place but hope that increased custom allows improvements to continue so that l can add another star....
