The Montagu Arms

We have just returned from another lovely stay at The Montagu Arms in Beaulieu. Our Courtyard Room was simply superb. A real sense of luxury and style and with its own little outdoor space. Lovely to listen to the birds with a coffee first thing. The gardens are always so well kept and worth a look around. The staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. This has always been a hallmark of staying here. We ate one night in Monty's (the pub attached to the hotel) and one night in the hotel restaurant. Food was delicious. If you're after a tranquil treat in the beautiful New Forest then this ticks all the boxes.

We had a very relaxing few days .. it was a peaceful and calm stay, a great escape from children and busy life.

This was a real spur of the moment stay having found ourselves in Beaulieu on the first Friday in November. We went into the hotel by accident (had meant to go into the adjacent pub for lunch) and met Vince at the reception. What a charming and helpful man! After a chat with him we went off for a bite to eat and made the decision to stay the night at the Hotel. I booked on line whilst we were having lunch and when we went back to the hotel Vince greeted us like old friends! He was really helpful in the registration process, giving us lots of information about the hotel and carrying my bag to our beautiful room. I think from the outside you might not realise how luxurious the rooms are. We stayed in one of the rooms which is round a courtyard outside the back of the hotel. Lovely White Company toiletries, lovely bed linen and towels, tea and coffee making facilities, comfortable large bed, great shower and bathroom. As we had celebrated a birthday we had a bottle of Champagne with us. There were no wine glasses in the room so we called reception to see if they could provide some glasses and less than 5 minutes later there was Vince again at our door with wine glasses!! Beaulieu itself is lovely to walk around and we enjoyed a stroll before coming back to relax in our lovely room. We ate in the hotel dining room which, as others have said, is a step back in time! Wooden paneling, white table linen. The food was good. We will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Beaulieu, but hope Vince will be there still!!

Amazing service and food in a traditional surrounding. We loved it!

The hotel interior looked very tired and needs updating - my small double room, the same. Our dinner (one sirloin and two ribeye steaks) was of a poor standard. One of the ribeye steaks was awful, mostly gristle and was sent back. I asked for the steak in question to be excluded from the bill and was told only 50% would be taken off because some of the ribeye had already been eaten. Preposterous, should have been a no quibble response. I had to argue with the waitress to get the item taken off the bill. In my opinion, this hotel is living on its past laurels. High prices and low standards.I will not stay there again. Michael

From the moment you walk through the door you are made so welcome and then looked after really well throughout your stay. All the staff were exceptionally well trained and the service very professional but at the same time personal. They take so much pride in what they do and they work together to create a lovely environment. Whilst the hotel has all the charm of a beautiful old listed building they manage to keep it in spotlessly clean. They all just want you to enjoy your stay and there were so many little extra touches; homemade flapjack in the rooms, bottles of water and apples for your journey home.Just a shame you cant take home the fluffiest pillows Ive ever slept on!
