El Portal Motel

Comfortable bed, very clean room & bathroom, great Wi-Fi, quiet. A/C & heat worked fine. Friendly staff. Loved seeing the wild donkeys up the street during the day. Good location; we were there for the arts festival in Rhyolite. Highly recommend!

First, we need to talk about Mittens, the motel mascot. She greeted us when we got in after dinner, and then when I walked outside in the morning, she came in and hung out with us. We're cat people, so it was great! The place we usually stay here in town was full, so we stayed here and weren't dissatisfied. It's an older motel and shows its age in a couple of areas (they actually use keys!), but it is clean, comfortable, and quiet. The king bed was comfortable, but only had two pillows, so if you're pillow people, bring extras! The AC/heater is quiet and very effective. There is a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The shower works well, and the water heats quickly, and the towels are nice and soft. I would only suggest some weatherstripping for the door and soap holders in the shower. Some reviews complained about its worn appearance, but it didn't bother us. It ain't the Ritz, but the price was nice. I'd rather stay here than at the Motel 6! It's also past the 95 intersection, so there are no trucks, and few cars passing by. I like the convenience of the hotel/casino where we usually stay, but we'll probably stay here again next time we come.

Very dated rooms, ok, but the main complaint, as other have said, I was charged twice. I went back to the office and told him this. He said it was only once. I showed him my statement from banking app showing 2 payments Was told one would be returned. Still waiting. Beware.

The motel was nothing special. They didn't have shampoo etc and when asked about it they said they hadn't been to the store in awhile. Stayed there because going to Death Valley. There is nothing to do in the town. Very few restaurants nearby and they close early. It was funny that the area almost had no fresh fruit to eat.

Needed a place to stop after a long drive… called and booked while we were about an hour away. Super friendly guy booked us, and since it was going to be late, he out our key in the room and turned on the heat so it was toasty when we got there. We slept great, cozy beds, clean room, hot showers. Couldn’t be happier. Sorry I didn’t get the guys name, but THANK YOU for the good night sleep!
