cool authentic hotel, kind people and friendly service. The location is perfect for exploring Bayreuth. Walking distance to lots of museum and the famous opera house. 5-10 min walk to train station if you want to explore other areas such as Nuremberg. I recommend the breakfast. It’s not buffet there is a menu and service so that felt luxurious for “included breakfast.” Very beautiful hotel and town!

Schönes, traditionsreiches Hotel mit geschmackvoll eingerichteten Zimmern, freundlicher Service, sehr gutes Frühstück preislich überzogen, wenn ausserhalb der (Wagner) Saison ca 300€ pro Nacht berechnet werden und das für ein Badezimmer mit Wannendusche, die sich nicht fixieren lässt. Essen im Restaurant ordentlich aber zu teuer mit 85€ für ein Dreigängemenue mit Räucherfisch und Entenbrust.

Our stay at the Goldener Anker Hotel in Bayreuth was the highlight of our travels in Germany. They served us Franconian white wine, chilled and crisp. Desserts included our favorite poppy seed struedel with elegant coffee service. It is no wonder that film director Wes Anderson is among the long list of fans of this spot, right next to one of the oldest opera houses in Europe. The entire place is a gem, not to be missed if you're a lover of truly authentic historical experiences. The owner is charming and the staff is friendly, multi lingual and hospitable. There's even free parking.

Good location, in the pedestrian zone of Bayreuth. We came on Monday evening for an overnight stay and were looking forward to a special dinner in a beautiful setting (as per the website) in the hotel's own restaurant. The reception was extremely unfriendly, we didn't even hear a "Grüss Gott". Simply unbelievable... Rooms were OK, good beds with particularly fresh bed linen, very clean. When we wanted to reserve a table for dinner, we were told that the restaurant was closed due to a lack of staff! No such mention on the website... Breakfast was served the next morning, however. No buffet, but "à la carte", a bit strange. We had the impression that they had to save money in this hotel! When it came to paying, we had to deal with the same, somewhat unkempt person as the night before. No good morning, no smile, nothing, not even an answer when we asked her if she had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed! Then we could only pay in cash, the terminal didn't work with a single bank card! No "goodbye" let alone a "bon voyage". We have never experienced that before and it is an absolute no-go for a 4-star hotel.

From the reception that led me to my room, to the friendly night porter and the lovely and personable breakfast, I haven't experienced so much warmth and attention to detail in a long time. I stayed here for two nights during the opera festival with friends who had stayed before. The location is near perfect and the staff try really hard to ensure you enjoy your stay. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed during our stay , but the breakfast was first class.

Thanks to Eva Graf and her wonderful team (Richard, Elisabeth, etc.) for the welcome during the festival! Smiles, generosity, kindness and attention from morning until late at night - the restaurant offered a delicious small menu and magnificent wines after the operas! Ideally located in the center, next to the Baroque Opera, the hotel is a 15-20 minute walk from the Festspielhaus. The decor is charming and bears witness to the fascinating history that has passed through the place. The same family has held the reins of the establishment since its founding almost 300 years ago! A hotel “in its own right”, but very classy and which offers all the necessary comfort for a 21st century guest. I spent ten nights in a very pleasant and spacious single room (57), cooled twice a day. The “à la carte” breakfast included in the overnight stay offers very good products, served with care in beautiful dishes. Not to mention the silverware that enhances the table. I have very good memories of my visit to the Goldener Anker and look forward to coming back.

Goldener Anker is a classic place, with lots of gold, carpets and ancient light switches. Nothing wrong for a night or two but a bit old fashioned. Breakfast is a la carte,many rooms have names of the people who stayed here: Thomas Mann, Herbert von Karajan..AH stayed here too, but then who did not .....
