Chewton Glen Hotel - an Iconic Luxury Hotel

This was, without question, one of the most disappointing hotel stays I’ve ever had. Not just because of the poor standards, but because of the complete lack of care shown when I raised my concerns. From the moment we entered the room, it was clear this was not a five-star experience. The shower was dirty and slow to drain, tiles were grimy and worse still, I stepped out of the shower to find someone else’s hair on my feet. My assumption is it came from the drain. Basic cleanliness was lacking. See photos - this is inexcusable at any level, let alone at this price point. The spa was no better. The outdoor hot tub was surrounded by dead bees, the jets were filthy and there was debris floating in the water indoors. It felt neglected and unclean. The smell of chlorine really hits hard too… not remotely relaxing or luxurious. Communication and standards were both poor throughout. Dinner was the only highlight. Good food, albeit with patchy service (starters before drinks, no water service). Breakfast was ruined by the sound of drilling and the quality of sausage was really not ok. Checkout was chaotic. No one asked how our stay had been and the whole process felt rushed and indifferent. I gave the hotel a chance to respond privately and professionally. Instead, I received a cold, copy-and-paste email from Paris with no genuine apology, no explanation and no follow-up. Just a vague reference to a possible “gesture” on a future stay, which felt like a hollow attempt to pacify rather than resolve anything - lip service. Then, silence. That final interaction said it all: they simply don’t care. Not about standards, not about guest experience and certainly not about putting things right when they fall short. The hotel trades on its location and price tag, but fails to deliver even the basics. Don’t be fooled by the branding — this is not a five-star experience in any meaningful sense. I would never return, and I strongly recommend others look elsewhere. On a more positive note, the valet service was great.

Chewton Glen - 2 night stay - Croquet Roomms Chewton Glen is a glorious hotel with fabulous, well cared for grounds. (Although the patios and tables in the Croquet rooms, could do with attention)The staff are exceptional, with every individual staff member reacting promptly, to our requests. We dined at the Kitchen on the first evening, which was superb. Unfortunately, on both mornings of our stay, our cooked breakfasts were rather disappointing. A simple omelet, eggs Benedict, and waffles were badly executed in our opinion. On the second evening we went to the Blossom Chinese in New Milton - very highly recommended!

Took my partner for her 60th birthday. Arrived at check-in desk at 15.50, (check in time was 1500) was told room was not ready,so told to wait in lounge and they would come and get us. 55 minutes later still sat in lounge,as we were going out with friends at 16.00 went back to desk to see if room was ready ,it was but it seems we had been forgotten about. Hotel is advertised as 5 star,unfortunately it looked and came across as more like 3 star. Overpriced at the £560 I paid for one night. The one upside was the breakfast was first class in every way. Staff were also very friendly.

I've been to Chewton Glen a couple of times now. Firstly to the spa, then for the cookery school and finally for a 2 night stay (business and pleasure) and I have to say this is becoming my favourite place. Firstly, the staff are incredible. Thomas, Joshua, deserve a special shout out. Highly recommend doing any of the activities especially through Adam from Walder Events who was amazing. The facilities are amazing, the food is delicious, the setting is serene and if you can afford to, then the Treehouses are a must do experience. Honestly, can't think of any negative! I'll be back!
