Hope they could prioritize front facing room first despite low season. But very comfort and clean stay. Nice surrounding view.

Visiting family in the area we stayed here. Our room was clean and comfortable if a little cold and we were hopeful of a good evening meal. We had a table in the conservatory which was cold and souless and it felt like a dumping ground for equipment (this turned out later to be the breakfast buffet tables and counter) While the food was hot and tasty, we waited over an hour since placing the order to the point it arrived. The waiters were not particulalry helpful or apologetic and looked like rabbits caught in the headlights when we commented about the wait. We were greeted the next morning for breakfast by a young girl who could not have been less interested, instead staring out of the window, picking her nails and being on her phone. The dining area was again cold and souless, some music would certainly have lifted the atmosphere. Then her colleague arrived and stood behind the breakfast bar eating, not a great look. In the meantime, we ate a breakfast that quickly became cold from ice cold plates and struggled with a hopeless water flask to fill a tea pot. Invest in a water boiler rather than have guests struggle or get your breakfast staff to go to the kitchen for the tea and coffee orders because this girl did very little else. We even cleared our own plates to make room for toast plates. As a retired restaurant Manager, I can see how this could be a really exceptional hotel if the front of house staff had some training and showed a comitment to customer sevice.

Extortionate prices for a low-quality buffet. The access road is for 4x4s only. Bar and restaurant areas are beautiful, the only positive aspect of this experience.

My room was a good size and had a large comfortable bed and reasonable facilities, although there was no phone to contact reception on, no teaspoon given and no details of the WiFi password left. The staff were pleasant and friendly though the front-desk staff were not particularly helpful. On entering my room it was very cold so I turned on the radiator but it was not warming up at all. Therefore I went back down to reception and mentioned this to staff, who just said they weren't sure what to do and that they'd have to ask someone. I was expecting them to get back to me to tell me what was happening, but they never did. The room remained cold throughout my stay until I left the next morning, a not very pleasant experience. The food quality was very mixed - my evening meal was great, but the breakfast was pretty average. I expected that it would be made to order, but it was buffet style. Overall I had a satisfactory stay, but just wished I hadn't been cold!

I took my two friends up to The coast restaurant inside the Dunes for a birthday meal, Saturday 4th October 7.30pm,, The food was absolutely top class. (Complements to the chef) ..The pork main and Lamb main was delicious, The burger was fantastic too. All of the starters great, and drinks kept flowing, staff were great. We were too full for desserts unfortunately. I couldn't believe it wasn't full though on a Saturday Evening, people definitely need to just go up for a meal and give it a try even if they are not staying in the hotel over night..we were there drinking till late. We all had a lovely evening and met some lovely people from Scotland and London. Give it a try people.

After arriving to the Uk from Australia I had booked to stay at the Dunes, sadly on the morning of the day I was to arrive at the hotel I became ill and was unable to travel as it was a two hour trip to the hotel. I immediately phoned but no answer so sent an email to cancel. I did later contact them again on the Monday to ask for a refund as my cancellation was due to unforeseen circumstances, the reply was my booking was non refundable, no refund. Can't believe no empathy shown, if they were considerate and proffessional a goodwill gesture of a refund would of been given. Obviously about greed rather than about the welfare of a customer., you would think some circumstances that can't be helped a refund would be given, in this case tells alot about the Company, - the management, very disappointing! Now not to keen to visit the lakes district.
