Plenty of off road parking at the front of the hotel. A beautiful, atmospheric interior greets you when you arrive and walk into the reception area. We found our room, ‘6’ perfect, warm and comfortable, with a great view of the coastline heading North. The beds were very comfortable, the bath spacious. We loved the dining and relaxing areas, with a nice little bar and great views. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and our server was a lovely, attentive and courteous chap. This hotel has a bit of history to it, built by a gunsmith, with one of his guns possibly used by Doc Holliday. We enjoyed it so much we will be returning later this year.

Back again to this hidden treasure in Barmouth. My husband and I are staying for 3 nights and love to revisit the Castle. Lovely room, with an amazing sea view. There is no need to go into town to dine, when the food is so good here. Breakfast is gorgeous. Beautiful, historic hotel with such caring owners and staff. Will definitely be revisiting

Upon arrival we were greated by a most unkempt parking area surrounded by overgrown grass heavily impregnated by weeds. This dis however offer splendid views of Barmouth Bay.This was also true from the allotted room.Unfortunately the room was small and extremely dated circa 1960.The ensuite was so small you could touch all the walls without moving. The hotel decor was dated and dark leading us to leave without availing ourselves of the facilities. Our payment was not returned, however, this was a small price to pay for what appeared a bad choice of hotel on our part.We received no sympathy from the owner.

We didn't stay because both the place and the host were exceptionally off-putting.It was like being taken back to the 60's.All it needed was for the Adams family to appear.Avoid at all costs

We went here for a cream tea and quite simply wow. So much food it could have fed 6 people whereas there was only 3 of us. We had 6 different sorts of cake, scones and 3 different type of sandwiches all of which were absolutely lovely. It might be £18 a head but so worth every penny as a treat. Other guests were even taking pictures of it. Staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Scenery beautiful. We fully intend to go again when we visit visit Barmouth

Despite spending my childhood in Harlech this was my first visit to what we called 'y Castell Melyn'. It was built in 1892 by a gunmaker from Birmingham and has retained much of its original wooden panelling and windows, giving it an atmospheric and relaxing ambience with views of Bae Ceredigion and the Dysynni side of the Mawddach estuary. The breakfast was adequate without a big choice. The room we had was a bit on the small side, especially the bathroom, and the bed we had in Room 10 was not particularly comfortable. Bedroom issues apart this would ordinarily been a 5 star recommendation
