We have never stayed here before but so delighted we found this spot Checkin was warm and friendly We booked a deluxe room which was spacious and well furnished nice touches such as a robe and slippers, crisps and water. Our package included dinner and both evenings the dinner was excellent Again staff checked in regularly to see if you had all you needed We had a nosey at the spa which did look really lovely two thermal areas as such one had two outdoor hot tubs and the inside area two all Saunas and a jacuzzi so would use that again in the future

Ballyliffin Townhouse Hotel Co. Donegal The very name of this hotel would suggest that there was a town or at least a village. All there is in Ballyliffin are 3 hotels, 1 tiny shop and 1 tiny filling station but if you are a golfer a Nick Faldo designed Golf course a few kilometres away. We were given our key to the Junior Suite that we had booked. It was a large room with nice soft furnishings but with no view whatsoever. There was a large bed with rock hard pillows, a comfortable sofa which was crying out for a standard lamp beside it so that one could read. The lighting otherwise in the room was good but much too bright for relaxing. The TV was best viewed from the bed rather than the sofa, that is when you could get any channels on it. The bathroom was spacious and well equipped. We had a meal in the bar that evening, the main dining room doesn’t appear to open in the evening but it was the end of season. I have to say my meal was dreadful. I had two starters, a prawn cocktail that tasted watery and no flavour of Marie Rose Sauce at all and then I had a chicken skewer which was so dry I had to send it back. My husband had a Vegetable soup which was okay and a beef stew which was also okay, nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, my husband got a 24-hour vomiting bug on one our 3 days there (nothing to do with food in hotel), the staff were so kind and helpful during that time it was truly appreciated. However, I was unable to sit on sofa to read while my husband was ill as it was in a corner and dark with no light other than the main spot lights in the room. This hotel in my opinion is really a pub/restaurant with rooms, the kitchen closes after breakfast and doesn’t open again until 5pm, you can get nothing to eat at all during the day. There is a nice seating area in which to read a book again with nice soft furnishings and comfortable chairs. It has a spa which we didn’t avail of. Would I go back, no, there is nothing much to recommend Ballyliffin unless you are a golfer.
