I've been staying at Agung Raka in Ubud since about 1996. I've stayed at a few other hotels, but the spaciousness of the grounds, the openness, and the Balinese feel of the bungalows are exquisite. The owner has changed and so have the staff, but the new pool is great. The breakfast is much tastier than before! It took a while, but I was surprised to see that the sandwiches I ordered for my lunch box were made with thin bread* and vegetables in between. The rooms have always had fatal flaws in the plumbing... Please check the gas frequently before checking in (they will replace it if you ask...) What was most disappointing this time was that my advance room designation was not accepted at all. I emailed the hotel directly, but there was no reply. I think it would be more reliable to contact them through a reservation site. However, many of the staff were working hard. I have a very good impression of them. At one point I was thinking of staying at another hotel, but Agung Raka is still the best choice for me. Even if the reinstatement of the free shuttle bus is impossible given the current traffic situation, I wish the hotel's car service could be made a little more affordable (it's more expensive than in the city). Now that Agung Raka is in a central location, I don't think you can find this laid-back atmosphere anywhere else in a mid-range hotel.

The room was moldy, the bath towels were not clean, and the bathroom was damp and musty, which might make women uncomfortable. The biggest problem was that the building was open and had no exterior walls. The bathroom was downstairs, and you had to get dressed in the bedroom on the second floor before going downstairs to the bathroom, which was extremely troublesome. Other than that, the swimming pool was very clean and nice, and the restaurant was far away but had a beautiful environment. All the staff were enthusiastic.

Picturesque view of the rice fields and the swimming pool. Very warm and caring staff. Very generous breakfast fruits, salad, omelette, rice, breaded chicken and more. Very spacious and modern room. Modern walk-in shower. Painting work in progress in high season. Very close to trendy restaurants and tea rooms

The location and staff are great. The hotel grounds are quiet and peaceful, set far back away from the noise of the main street.
The room, especially the bathroom, needs to be updated. Unfortunately, the shower doesn't seem like it's ever been scrubbed. Needs a full Bleach spray down and a scrubbing pad for the shower walls and glass, along with a rubber seal for the shower door so the water doesn't flood the bathroom floor while you take a shower.
You can tell that this hotel was once top-notch and very beautiful. With some bathroom renovations and some room updates, it could easily reach 3-4 stars, quite possibly even 5.

Is this 4 stars? . The door in the shower is so scary. The territory is large, there is no beautiful fishing here. There are swimming pools, but it’s better not to swim in them, believe me. The exit to the street through the room is cool, but there is such a gap there that the ants walked as if to their own home.

First of all the hotel location is nice as it’s near the paddy field and it’s not far from main road where many cafes, restaurants and shops for convenience. The check in at the reception is straight forward but the instructions isnt clear and lack of enthusiasm from the hotel staff. Although the room is spacious, it doesn’t compensate with how dirty the floor is , the wall was moldy especially in the toilet! … the condition of the bed and sofas are stained with dirts and smells as well . stayed for 3nites, and there’s no cleaning in the morning (except for day 2) unless I requested this at the reception.. there’s no hot water for shower unless I requested this at the reception also and both instructions wasn’t convey to me during check in…
Don’t consider to stay here unless you want creepy crawlies entering the room (I can still tolerate that, that’s why daily cleaning is required automatically!), house lizards droppings, guano from the bats, mosquitoes (there’s no insect repellent well at least repellant coils should be provided).
